The exhibition is part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan (September 21, 1973), according to a report by VietnamPlus.
Organized jointly by the Bac Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, the event will run from August 10 to 30.

The exhibition is divided into two sections – one showcasing human-shaped dolls and the other featuring Kokeshi wooden dolls. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore beautiful dolls depicting various characters, from children to adults, in different everyday life and theater settings.
Additionally, the unique wooden doll Kokeshi provided by Tsugaru Kokeshi Museum will be showcased. Originating from the Tohoku (Northeast) region of Japan in the 19th century, Kokeshi dolls are commonly sold as souvenirs for children in hot spring towns in the region.

Each town in the region has its own unique type of Kokeshi dolls characterized by different patterns and techniques.
The exhibition will feature 12 types of Kokeshi dolls in various sizes, including modern Kokeshi works inspired by Vietnamese culture. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try on traditional Yukata clothes, learn the art of paper folding Origami, participate in woodblock printing, and take home cute little paper dolls.

The exhibition will also feature a collection of photos showcasing the landscapes, people of Japan, and the culture of Bac Giang province.
In addition, on August 6, the Asia-Japan Economic Cultural Cooperation Centre was inaugurated in Osaka, Japan. According to VOV, the center aims to promote Vietnam’s trade and culture, as well as spread the cultural values of Asian countries.
Vu Hoang Duc, chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Gunma Prefecture, stated that the center will serve as an ideal place to introduce Vietnamese culture and display high-quality goods from Vietnam and other Asian nations. Moreover, it will host cultural and artistic events for the Vietnamese community in Japan and facilitate investment promotion forums to connect Vietnamese businesses with Asian countries.
