Ramla Al Khalidi, the UN Development Programme (UNDP)’s Resident Representative in Vietnam, calls on people to say no to single-use plastic in order to share responsibility in responding to marine pollution. The award ceremony is co-organised by VTC News online newspaper under VOV, the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the World Wildlife Fund – Vietnam. A reportage on the fight against plastic waste by journalists Do Thi Hoa and Pham Ngoc Phuc broadcast on VTV24, wins first prize at the 2022 press award. After three months organisers had received 312 entries from 70 contestants from 19 cities and provinces nationwide. Authors Nguyen Thi Hanh and Pham Hong Manh of Tuoi tre Thu Do (Youth of the Capital) online newspaper, as well as author Ho Minh Van of Binh Thuan Newspaper, are given the second-place prizes. The third-place prizes go to articles from VTC News online newspaper, the Voice of Vietnam (VOV)’s online newspaper, and the Cong Thuong (Industry and Trade) newspaper. Furthermore, a total of six consolation prizes are awarded. The ceremony also witnesses organisers give prizes for the ASEAN regional photo contest “White pollution and its impacts on marine ecosystem”. The first prize is given to the photo “Plastic” by Winniwat Traitongtanarat from Thailand. The photo contest is held alongside the press awards and receives over 7,500 photo entries from 2,700 authors from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
