Siddharth Malhotra is ready to compete against the high-budgeted action thrillers scheduled for the latter half of 2023 with his upcoming project, Yodha. He has collaborated with Dharma Productions and producer Karan Johar once again after delivering fan-favourite films, Student of the Year, Hasee Toh Phasee and Kapoor and Sons. Reportedly, Malhotra’s action thriller is the first of the franchise Johar and debutant directors Pushkar Ojha and Sagar Ambre are aiming to build. With Muhammad Asif Ali overlooking the screenplay, the film is expected to be a mishmash of evergreen action, adventure, thrill and romance genres. It is teased as a classic Bollywood thriller harbouring high-octane action sequences and cheesy romance scenes.

No, the Siddharth Malhotra starrer, Yodha, is not based on a true story. It is a pure fictional action thriller helmed by Tadap’s writer, Mohammad Asif Ali. Though the creators have yet to comment on the film’s script or inspiration, there is no evidence to suggest Yodha is a true story. Similar to the high-budgeted action film chains, such as Rohit Shetty’s copverse (cop universe), led by the Singham film chain, Yodha is being manifested to become a trailblazer. The principal photography for the film began in November 2021 and nearly went on for a year. In March, Dharma Productions confirmed that Ek Villain’s star actress, Disha Patani alongside Farzi’s Raashii Khanna would lead the film alongside Malhotra. Yodha was initially supposed to be released on 7 July 2023 but was delayed to 15 September. Speculations regarding Siddharth’s much-anticipated Yodha and his and Rohit Shetty’s OTT debut, Indian Police Force, another instalment in the latter’s copverse, coinciding began flourishing in August.
However, Shetty hasn’t yet confirmed the release date for his upcoming web series, confirming that Yodha won’t be competing against the Indian Police Force. Malhotra’s projects draw a close resemblance to each other and have ignited a spark of curiosity and intrigue in fans. While the latter doesn’t have a concrete release date, Yodha is confirmed to hit theatres on 8 December, coinciding with Katrina Kaif’s Merry Christmas.

Disha Patani has teamed up with Malhotra for the first time and will be seen on screen a year later. Meanwhile, Raashii Khanna will be making her Bollywood comeback nine years after her debut film, Madras Cafe with John Abraham, slayed fanatics. Siddharth will be seen as a cop once again after his thriller, Mission Majnu knocked on the theatres in 2023. It seems like all three of his projects scheduled for 2023 will witness him as a vigilant mercenary.
Since the creators haven’t yet elaborated on the plot synopsis or released a trailer, Yodha’s exact plot isn’t yet clear. However, due to the few teasers released by the cast ensemble and the creators, the silhouette could be predicted. As per IMDB, Yodha revolves around an aeroplane hijack orchestrated by atrocious criminals. An anonymous soldier stands as a bridge between the hijackers and innocent passengers. His operation isn’t as feasible as it initially seems; it is rather brimming with conspiracies, gore and violence.
While Yodha seems to be Malhotra’s survival story, Patani and Khanna’s characters aren’t yet fleshed out. The film also features Abhishek Mishra, Col Ravi Sharma and Mohammed Talib. It seems like their characters would be made clear only on December 8.
