Serving as a breath of fresh air among the pile of anime brethren, Scissor Seven has been entertaining us for well over four years. Directed by He Xiaofeng, the Chinese anime explores the life of a freelance assassin, who happens to be an amnesiac. The franchise tethers between consecutive series and films and delivers what could only be described as a satirical punch on mundane yet profound issues. Scissor Seven delves into the Wuxia genre and portrays a lighthearted and compelling tale of weaving through an identity crisis, betrayals, two-faced neighbours and complicated relationships.

Scissor Seven Season 5 Release Date

Essentially a hilarious twist on Angry Birds, Scissor Seven premiered on April 25, 2018, with its ten half-hour-long episodes. It is a manifestation of Xiaofeng’s creative imagination, who also serves as the director and editor. Long before the sequel proved to be an imminent success, Xiaofeng and his team harboured hopes and intentions to turn Scissor Seven into a multi-season franchise. They aspired to propagate Luiqi’s enchanting tale by infusing it with intrigue, humour and suspense.

Netflix immediately abided by the request, upon witnessing Scisson Seven’s success. The sequel aired the same year, in May 2020 and paved the way for a third season which in turn proppelled the creators to conjure a fourth iteration and an animated film. Season 4 recently wrapped up on Netflix and left us on a gripping cliffhanger. It is due to the said cliffhanger that a fifth iteration seems palpable.

As if it wasn’t enough to raise the hype, Netflix has greenlit Scissor Seven Season 5, which is already under production. Though the release date for the same isn’t yet approved, the series is expected to drop by mid-2024. Moreover, another film has been approved by Netflix, Sharefun Studio and AHA Entertainment, which is already in production.

Scissor Seven Series Overview

The series revolves around a “clumsy and broke” hairdresser, Wu Luiqi, who is always adorned in a white hoodie with the word Seven encrusted on it. He has lost his memories due to a past accident–which Luiqi AKA Seven is unable to recollect–and has failed a crash course in professional killing. Due to the same, he has resorted to operating a salon on Chicken Island. Here, he keeps clashing against his manager, Ji Dabao, who, unbeknownst to him, once saved his life.

Meanwhile, Plum Blossom Thirteen, an enforcer herself, has sworn vengeance on the opposite gender due to her mother’s assassination. She is tasked with slaughtering Seven by an anonymous person and retrieving a sword from him. Thirteen stumbles across Seven, ready to slice him up with her rugged edges, when she is thrown off-kilter by his perceptive personality and kindhearted nature. Though she tries her best to stay away from Seven, she keeps falling deeper into the web of the latter’s mysterious past.

What Will The Scissor Seven Season 5 Be About?

Throughout the four seasons, Thirteen and Seven have battled through their blossoming feelings and dark past. The duo then embarks on a journey to unravel each other’s former life, which seems to be encrusted in mysteries. Seven, who seems to be an ordinary assassin, turns out to be one of the seven shadow assassins of the Xuanwu Kingdom. Thirteen foregoes her mission of slaughtering Seven and Dabao, too, turns out to be an executioner, too.

Scissor Seven Season 5 is expected to unveil the remaining six shadow assassins and reflect on Luiqi’s gloomy past. Moreover, the upcoming season will portray the reason behind Thirteen’s kidnapping and Seven choosing between her and his past.
