Is Lifetime’s Trapped In The Farmhouse Based On A True Story? Or A Depiction Of Sullivan’s Imagination?

As its title suggests, Lifetime’s latest horror thriller, Trapped in the Farmhouse is a tale of a woman ensnared in a farmhouse. Helmed by Peter Sullivan, the film utilizes elements of suspense and gore to deliver a power-packed story to the viewers. It is obvious from its dark elements and psychological twists that Sullivan has outdone himself with the direction of the film. He has also tried to uplift the genre with the storyline.

It is due to this highly realistic portrayal of the storyline and its graphic elements that fans are left to wonder whether Sullivan derived inspiration from a realistic event or not. Are you wondering whether Lifetime’s Trapped in the Farmhouse based on a true story? Well, your wait ends here!

Is Lifetime’s Trapped In The Farmhouse Based On A True Story?

With Peter Sullivan, Jeffrey Schneck and Hanz Wasserburger serving as the editorial and creative team behind the film, the expectations from the project have been high right from the start. When Lifetime released the first official synopsis that hinted at a “woman on the run from her abusive husband seeking shelter in an isolated farmhouse”, I was instantly enamoured. Well, thrill is a genre hard to miss out on and easy to get lost in.

Often films of this genre derive inspiration from haunted incidents experienced by a victim. With Trapped in the Farmhouse’s approach towards centralizing the story around a multidimensional character, Emma portrayed by Her Study of a Killer’s Jenna Michno, the question becomes interesting. The answer is rather bland though.

Much like the rest of the film comprising the thriller genre and spanning Sullivan’s creative works, Lifetime’s Trapped in the Farmhouse isn’t based on a true story. However, it derives inspiration from some cult classics and cliche elements.

Is Lifetime’s Trapped In The Farmhouse Adapted From A Novel?

As much as the question of whether Lifetime’s Trapped in the Farmhouse is based on a true story is trending, the Internet is blazing with one more question. Is Trapped in the Farmhouse adapted from a novel? Unlike the plethora of horror flicks that derive inspiration from a novel, Trapped in the Farmhouse isn’t adapted from a novel series.

While sharing his experience as a writer and the director of the film, Sullivan didn’t mention his muse. The other two writers, Schenck and Wasserburger, too, haven’t opened up about the inspiration for the film yet. It seems like the movie is a manifestation of their imagination. It is not a true story and neither a cinematic adaptation of a best-selling novel.

Trapped In The Farmhouse Plot

With several romantic flicks under his belt, Sullivan has surely decided to swap genres with Lifetime’s Trapped in the Farmhouse. As I mentioned above, this film revolves around Emma. She has recently managed to escape her abusive boyfriend, Jack (Gabriel Pranter). Jack, much like most sociopathic schizophrenics, is a violent control freak who isn’t ready to let go of his sick obsession with Emma. But the latter is done hiding her bruises and faking smiles.

Emma grabs the first chance she gets and jumps out of Jack’s surly clutches. Now on a run amid a brewing storm, Emma seeks shelter in a deserted farmhouse. And everything she has experienced so far seems like child’s play in comparison to what lurks beneath the deserted land and creaking doors. It isn’t just the windows shutting down on her but her sanity that’s at stake.

Not just ghosts from the past but new demons await Emma with her only weapon being her resilience. The traumatizing events that unfold after Emma seeks solitude in the farmhouse make for the storyline of Lifetime’s Trapped in the Farmhouse.
