Ndejje University Threatens to Withdraw from University Football League Over Fan Violence

Ndejje University, currently with ten players, has issued a warning that they may withdraw from the University Football League following an incident of fan violence during their recent 1-1 draw against Kyambogo University. The match took place at Banda.

The coach of the Luweero-based team, Musa Ssekago, stated that the threat stems from an attack on their goalkeeper, Emmanuel Mayega, which occurred at the conclusion of the game, leading to Mayega’s hospitalization.

“The game was going well from the beginning, and we managed to score a goal,” said Ssekago. “However, things took a turn for the worse when Kyambogo students attacked our bench. My goalkeeper was assaulted at the end of the game, and he had to be rushed to the hospital.”

Ssekago also raised concerns about the referee’s decision to add more than ten minutes of stoppage time. “I’m still wondering why the referee added all those minutes,” he said. “We were told that they had added 11 minutes, but it went beyond that. Our players did not waste time; it was the home fans.”

Ndejje took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Regan Ssemaganda, but Kyambogo managed to equalize through Hudson Mbalire’s penalty in the 93rd minute.

During the second half, Ndejje had one player sent off after defender Abdul Kibedi received a second yellow card.

Following this result, Kyambogo is now in second place in Group C with four points, trailing leaders Makerere University by two points. Ndejje is in third place with two points, while Muni University is at the bottom with one point.

Kyambogo’s coach, Christopher Lobbo, criticized his players for failing to capitalize on their chances. “The truth is we didn’t have luck on our side,” Lobbo explained. “We had opportunities, but we were not fortunate enough to convert them.”

He also emphasized the importance of securing three points to ensure qualification for the quarterfinals.

The University Football League will continue with a match between Bugema University and University of Kisubi on Sunday.
