UPDF Soldier’s Mysterious Death Sparks Investigation in Kasenyi, Entebbe

Authorities in Kasenyi, Katabi town council in Entebbe have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Corporal Henry Madri, a UPDF soldier attached to the Special Forces Command.

Corporal Madri’s lifeless Body was discovered near a residence in Kasenyi. The 36-year-old soldier was last seen on Sunday night at a local bar in Kasenyi, socializing with friends before his body was found abandoned outside a house.

According to John Muhiire, an area counselor, Corporal Madri had recently returned from Somalia, where he had been serving as part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). He described the deceased as a humble individual and expressed deep sadness at his untimely demise, calling on people to refrain from engaging in criminal activities.

Muhiire also pointed out the strained relationship between local residents and Security forces in the area, citing allegations of mistreatment and abuse of residents by security personnel. This tension has contributed to an increase in insecurity within the community.

Corporal Madri’s body displayed minor bloodstains and wounds on his legs, suggesting that he might have been involved in a scuffle that led to his tragic death.

Robert Mulondo, the Chairperson of Kasenyi LC1, revealed that security concerns in the area had been escalating, partly due to conflicts between locals and security forces. He mentioned a recent meeting called by a landlord in the vicinity to address security issues, during which residents voiced complaints against security officers. Mulondo suspected that the soldier’s death might be linked to retaliatory actions, which he strongly condemned.

The police, along with the Special Forces Command, visited the scene and documented the area, recovering items like suspected bloodstains and a pair of grey desert storm shoes. The soldier’s body was transported to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, confirmed the incident and reported that the body was discovered on Monday morning inside an iron sheet structure. While there were no visible injuries on the body apart from blood coming from the nose, the exact cause of death is still under investigation. Additional details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
