ViewSonic X2000 UHD Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector Review

Short throw projectors have ushered in a new era in the world of projectors, offering the luxury of enjoying movies and shows on a spacious 120-inch screen without the hassle of finding ample space or obstructing the projection. ViewSonic, a leading brand in projectors, has introduced its latest innovation, the X2000 UHD Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector, boasting impressive features like 2000 ANSI brightness, OTT app support, Wi-Fi connectivity, various input options, and top-notch Harman Kardon speakers with DTS and Dolby support.

With a price tag of Rs 3,99,900, the ViewSonic X2000 is not your run-of-the-mill projector. But how does it perform as a home entertainment device? We’ve spent some quality time with it, and here’s our comprehensive review.

ViewSonic has taken an unconventional approach to the projector’s design. The X2000 consists of two parts: the front section houses the rectangular projector unit, while the rear part showcases a circular design that accommodates Harman Kardon-tuned speakers with DTS and Dolby support. The top of the projector features a cutout for the 2nd-generation projection lens, while the front hosts all the essential ports, including two HDMI ports, USB, audio input and output, and an Ethernet port. Each end of the projector is equipped with a fan setup to dissipate the heat generated by the powerful LEDs.

The projector’s design is notably functional, avoiding any oddities and fitting well into most home settings.

Setting up the X2000 is a breeze. Simply position the projector 23cm away from the wall or projection screen, connect the cables, and power it on. The setup process is straightforward, automatically handling keystone correction and autofocus adjustments for all four corners.

Once the projector is up and running, you can connect an external media streaming device or use the built-in operating system for your entertainment needs. While the included OS is basic and suitable for occasional use, we recommend using an external device for a more comprehensive smart TV experience. The projector does not run Google TV or other smart TV operating systems, but it does support a few OTT services and YouTube. There’s also an app store, albeit with a limited app selection.

Navigating through the settings is user-friendly and intuitive, providing easy access to picture settings, sound adjustments, and more. A standout feature is the colored wall setting, which allows users to optimize picture quality based on the color of the viewing surface, particularly if projecting onto a wall.

One notable highlight is the backlit remote control, which not only includes essential buttons but also significantly enhances the user experience.

When it comes to projection brightness, the X2000 doesn’t disappoint. It delivers exceptional brightness not only in dark environments but also in well-lit rooms or under daylight conditions. The projector offers multiple picture modes that allow users to unleash its full potential. You can also manually adjust contrast, brightness, and color temperature to suit your preferences.

The picture quality is impressive, with vivid colors and excellent contrast levels. This projector stands out as one of the brightest options available. It handles HDR content adeptly, preserving a natural look. Content viewed on this projector closely matches what you’d see on a color-accurate display.

The audio quality from the Harman Kardon-tuned speakers is rich and detailed, offering clear vocals and respectable bass output, although it may not deliver exceptionally powerful bass. Overall, the sound quality meets the needs of most viewing experiences.

In summary, the ViewSonic X2000 UHD Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector boasts impressive features, including bright projection, customizable settings, and Harman Kardon speakers with DTS and Dolby support. However, its basic built-in operating system and limited app selection may require external devices for a complete entertainment experience. Despite its high price tag, it excels in delivering exceptional picture and sound quality for home entertainment.
