Opposition MPs demand transparency regarding the Lugogo Cricket Oval Stadium Agreement.

Opposition MPs are demanding transparency in the Lugogo Cricket Oval Stadium agreement due to concerns over past cases of public land allocated to investors without successful projects. They seek clarity on the government’s commitment to redevelop the stadium to prevent potential future land disputes.

MP Kayemba Ssolo cited instances like the UBC land in Kololo taken over by Aya Group and the Shimoni Demonstration school replaced by Kingdom Mall. He called for full disclosure of the agreement with the Turkish Investor before the project begins.

MP Hillary Kiyaga stressed the government’s role in developing Uganda’s sports sector and cautioned against relying solely on the private sector.

MP Joyce Bagala sought an update on the Aki-Bua Stadium development in Lira, which is part of Uganda’s bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

MP Richard Lumu cautioned against speculators posing as investors and emphasized the need for proper agreements to avoid unfavorable outcomes.

The government plans to transform Lugogo Cricket Oval into a Multipurpose Sports Complex, addressing Uganda’s long-standing need for better sports venues.
