The Territorial Police in Mubende have arrested one Tumusiime Benjamin, a crucial suspect linked to a murder case in Kilwanyi village, Kilwanyi parish, Kiruma Subcounty, Mubende district.

The incident took place on July 31, 2023, around 08:00 AM, when Namutebi Milly Naava, her husband, Abudalah Kayezi, and their two sons, Ssekamate Muzafaru and Ibrahim Kaluma, were ambushed by a group of approximately 30 individuals, with Tumusiime Benjamin leading the group.

The unfortunate attack occurred while the victims were leaving Tumusiime Benjamin’s home, resulting in the tragic death of Namutebi Milly Naava and her husband, while their two sons sustained serious injuries but managed to escape.

According to Wamala regional police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, Tumusiime Benjamin was successfully apprehended on August 6, 2023, at around 10:00 AM by a joint task team consisting of CID and Crime intelligence in Watuba town, Wakiso. He is currently in custody at Mubende CPS.

So far, a total of six suspects have been arrested in connection to this murder case, while further inquiries are ongoing.

This came after unknown assailants descended on Kijonjo Village, Kamwoozi Parish in Buwunga Sub-county, Masaka District in June and hacked to death five family members.

The victims were Emmanuel Muteesasira, 57, (head of family), his wife Proscovia Ndagaano, 52, Beatrice Nakalyango, 13 (daughter), and two grandchildren – Shivan Nakasagga,5, and Robert Kayemba,2.

There were 279 cases of murder by shooting that were reported to police in 2022 compared to 303 cases that were reported in 2021, according to the police crime report.

The report shows that a total of 296 persons were shot dead, of whom 266 were male adults, six male juveniles, 19 female adults and five female juveniles.
