Love or lust? Fans are yet to find out as they speculate about the relationship brewing between Drake and sensational rapper Sexyy Red!

Known for his many high-profile flings with several female celebrities, ranging from Rihanna to Hailey Bieber, Julia Fox, Kylie Jenner, and Jennifer Lopez, Drake has surely had a roller coaster of relationships that always fizzle out.

However, recently, the Canadian-born rapper seems to have his eyes on an upcoming artist – Sexyy Redd, who garnered mainstream attention after releasing “Pound Town” in January 2023.

The “One Dance” crooner and the 25-year-old were the center of attention in the early hours of today after Drake shared how he felt about the younger rapper.

Taking to his Instagram Story, the dad of one posted two pictures of the pair being affectionate and cuddly with one another.

In the first photo, Drake was captured planting a kiss on Sexyy Redd’s cheek as they hung out in a club. Seated closely beside one another on a cream couch, Drake had one arm wrapped around her for the photo.

Meanwhile, the St.Louis native placed her hand on his neck, obviously enjoying the show of affection while she pouted her mouth. For the late-night event, she donned a white crop leather jacket and matching ripped jeans. Rocking her bright red hair, she accessorized her fit by wearing a customized diamond-encrusted necklace. She also wore a pair of glasses.

Drake, on the other hand, looked stylish, dressed in a black baggy sweatshirt and matching leather pants. He adorned his face, wearing diamond stud earrings. Adding a caption over the post, he penned, “Just met my rightful wife,” and further tagged Sexyy Red in it.  

The second update was a blurry photo of the duo on a huge screen, performing on stage to an excited crowd. Once again, the “Jimmy Cooks” crooner kissed the red-haired rapper’s cheek.

Aside from catching the fancy of the Canadian-born rapper, here’s more to know about Sexyy Red, who rose to the limelight this year. Her original birth name is Janae Wherry, and she was born on April 15, 1998, spending most of her childhood growing up in St.Louis, Missouri.

Granting an interview with “Complex,” she described herself as ”a product of my environment.” Her description was made in reference to her character and her musical taste. In her words, “I like St. Louis rappers. Everybody from St. Louis listens to St. Louis people.” 

As for the rappers who influenced her musical career, she cited the likes of Gucci Mane, Project Pat, and Juicy J. Interestingly, her songs are most notable for how her confidence and straight, to-the-point manner of speaking come across.

The inspiration for her first song is not as memorable as most artists, as the recorded song, “Ah Thousand Jugs,” was a diss track about her boyfriend who was cheating on her. To her utmost surprise, he liked the song and motivated her to record it properly in 2018. Going ahead to become a remarkable rapper in 2023, she released her hit song “Pound Town.”

Gaining traction on several social media platforms, the song’s unapologetically vulgar lyrics drew the attention of Nicki Minaj, who agreed to jump on the track, doing a remix in May 2023.

Due to Minaj’s influence and talent, ”Pound Town” became Sexyy Red’s first Billboard Hot 100 entry, peaking at number 66. Revealing where she got her stage name from, she attributed it to rocking her bold red hairstyle since her days in middle school, giving her the nickname “Red.” 

Struggling on what name to go by after uploading her first song, she tried out different prefixes ahead of Red, and eventually, her cameraman suggested, ”What about Sexyy Red because you’re sexy and your name is Red.” Fortunately for the rapper, that moment began the era of Sexyy Red and her rise to fame.

The St.Louis native also mentioned that she is a mother and spoke about her career aspirations in the interview. She stated, “I want to get on TV. I want to have a makeup line. I want to sell clothes, hair. I want some stores.” She added, “And just get my son out of the hood, so he don’t got to grow up in the kind of environment I did.”

Notwithstanding that Drake openly professed his love to the “Skee Yee” rapper, even calling her his “rightful wife,” there is no solid proof to point that the two are in a relationship. Moreover, fans have come up with a theory that the pair are most likely teasing an upcoming collaboration.
