Following a successful career in neuroscience, Dr. Li embarked on a new path as owner of Tea Tell Truth, LLC, a specialty tea business that incorporates offerings in mindfulness and wellness education. Through her company, Dr. Li encourages individuals to connect with their inner selves through tea, especially puerh Tea, a high-quality type sourced from Yunnan, a mountainous region of China in which Dr. Li was born; this particular tea is brewed with post-fermented tea leaves, greatly increasing its health benefits. In addition to retail products such as puerh, black, white and green teas, Tea Tell Truth offers mindfulness ceremonies, blending classes, tastings for restaurant and hotel staff, Zen dance ceremonies and more.

Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Li earned an M.D. and completed a residency at Kunming Medical University in the People’s Republic of China, where she served as art and sports minister for the student union and vice president of the hip-hop dancing club. She went on to hold positions at The Scripps Research Institute and UMass Chan Medical School, where she was involved with neuroscience and ophthalmology research. She holds certifications from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science and the Chinese Nutrition Society. Throughout the course of her research career, Dr. Li has authored and co-authored numerous articles, with work published in JCI Insight, Human Gene Therapy and other professional journals.

Throughout her work as a research, Dr. Li found herself becoming disheartened at the often-negative consequences of Western medicine. Passionate about the health benefits of tea, Dr. Li immersed herself in learning about the beverage and the culture and history surrounding it. She was inspired to start Tea Tell Truth after her mother traveled to Asia and brought back Asian tea tree tea cakes. Looking toward the future, Dr. Li hopes to help more people experience tea’s positive health benefits as an international tea mindfulness teacher.
