Greavard Wax is a material in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that is used to craft specific Technical Machines (TMs). These are used to teach new moves to a Pokémon immediately. Scarlet and Violet added the ability to make TMs from materials dropped by certain pocket monsters. There are a total of 171 Technical Machines in the Paldea region. Greavard Wax is just one of the many materials that players will collect on their journey.
Trainers will begin to earn Greavard Wax near the start of their playthrough. As the name suggests, this material drops from the new Ghost-type Greavard. The Pokémon was revealed in a trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet before the games were released. This ghostly dog evolves into Houndstone, which also drops Greavard Wax. Trainers can use the material to craft the TMs for Hex, Dig, and Phantom Force.
How To Farm Greavard Wax In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
The only way to get Greavard Wax is from Greavard or Houndstone. As shown on the maps above, their habitats are spread throughout the Paldea region. Greavard is mainly located in the Glaseado Mountains and the surrounding areas. Houndstone is much harder to find, as this Pokémon is in multiple corners of the map. Lucky Trainers may encounter both monsters in a few overlapping parts of the Glaseado Mountains. The best way to obtain Greavard Wax is by using the new Let’s Go feature to auto-battle the Pokémon. Alternatively, Trainers can catch Greavard or Houndstone to earn the material. Players can increase their odds of finding the Pokémon by eating a Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This will improve the spawn rates of Ghost-types. The recipes that use Greavard Wax can be found below:
TM | Materials |

Hex is a Special Ghost-type move with 100% accuracy and 65 power. The damage doubles if the target is affected by a status condition. Dig is a Ground-type move introduced in Generation I. It is Physical, has 100% accuracy, and has 80 base power. Additionally, Dig takes two turns to deal damage, but the user is semi-invulnerable during the first turn. Similarly, Phantom Force also gives users a turn of semi-invulnerability. This Physical Ghost-type move in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has 100% accuracy, has 90 power, and takes two turns to inflict damage.
Houndstone is a bulky Pokémon with high Defense, Special Defense, and Attack. While the pocket monster learns Dig early, Trainers will need to level this ghostly dog to 41 for Phantom Force. Using Greavard Wax, they can craft the TM and teach the move to their Pokémon early. Hex is not learned through level-up and can be great for attacking opponents with low Special Defense. Trainers should collect plenty of Greavard Wax to craft multiple copies of some excellent TMs in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
