Swiss French by birth, Xavier Mouche completed his schooling in western Canada and later studied fine arts in both Paris and Sydney. Xavier has been a practicing painter for over 20 years, exhibiting and selling his artwork in Australia, Europe and Asia.
Aside from his part time job, writing teaching material for undergraduate courses, Xavier now wishes to dedicate time to his painting again at his home atelier in beautiful Mintaro.
Xavier’s painting and drawing Style began with a realistic and traditional approach, but he now wishes to move onto a more abstract and ‘art brut’ style concentrating on imaginative landscapes and still life subjects.

Xavier, How Did You Develop Your Style?
I always drew and painted since early childhood. Both my parents and grand parents were talented drawers and painters. When I was about 10 years old, I came second at national drawing and collage competition organised by Caran d’Ache in Switzerland. The prize was a substantial amount of drawing and painting supplies. These allowed me to progress in my art for years after that.
What Mediums Do You Prefer?
I’ve trained with charcoal sticks, watercolours and oils but lately I’ve been using acrylic paint, acrylic pens as well as colour crayons for my work.
How Did You Develop Your Style?
My art and painting style is still in progress and isn’t quite established at this stage. I’m currently inspired from many different sources and painters. I have shown a certain degree of consistency in my work towards a Naive and Art Brut style of painting.
Where Can You & Your Work Be Found?
I currently exhibit permanently in South Australia (clare Valley) mainly at the Art Collective in Clare SA.
What Else Are You Up To?
I qualified as an interior architect, in hotel management and in pedagogy but I’m currently employed part time as a lecturer (level B) designing teaching material. I also enjoy spending time in the outdoors, appreciating nature and photography.
What Are Your Goals within the ETChster Community?
To share my work with like minded artists and when the the time comes potentially sell as well.
What’s One Fact About You that Not Many Other People Know?
I have a passion for uncommon places, such as abandoned urban areas, back alleys etc.. that I enjoy taking pictures of. When I was a young teenager living in northern Canada in the 70’s we used to always go to those ‘uncommon places’ and collect empty pop bottles and cans to sell them and make ourselves some spending money. I will always remember the back of gas stations, supermarkets, carparks, highways etc.. and those vacant and uninviting places with their authentic and weathered charm.
