Eva dodges the fans, media, and gossip that follow her supermodel mom and rock star family members by wearing disguises. After an aimless gap year, she struggles to figure out what she wants from life. She moves in with her famous guitar god brother in Austin while he recovers from a drunken stage stunt accident and tries to stay sober. When a hot Texas cowboy named Alex takes Eva by surprise, she risks her safety and security of anonymity by letting him into her unconventional life.

Alex is captivated by Eva and promises to protect her privacy. Yet he has a secret of his own—the fling he had with an older woman is fraught with scandalous potential for him and now Eva. The resulting exposé, with a sly spin on a recent encounter with his ex, is Alex’s worst nightmare, and Eva’s unsure what to believe. Can she face the world with Alex at her side or will she return into hiding?

Whiskey on Our Shoes by Tonya Preece is a wonderful blend of strong characters, love, and finding oneself.  Tonya’s writing will effortlessly sweep you away from the trials and tribulations in your own life and place you gently into the arms of Eva and Alex.

Eva avoids the public eye at all costs; with a brother as the lead guitarist in a popular band, her mom as a popular supermodel, and her dad and uncle as lead musicians in yet another popular band, Eva’s well acquainted with the difficulties that come from being in the public eye. She’s keenly aware of the negative side to fame as well—especially as she helps her brother recover from addiction and a paralyzing fall from the stage.  Eva isn’t interested in any of these things, but she does want to find herself.

Alex is recovering from an entirely different sort of fall—when he dated the married wife of a governor many years his senior, he had no idea what viper’s den he’d crawled into.  Now that the relationship is over, he’s realizing anew what a mistake she was and he’s trying to repair the holes left behind.  When he meets Eva, he realizes just how many mistakes he’s made.  Will the two be able to overcome their pasts to stay together? Or will family drama, publicity, and fame overshadow the new relationship?

Tonya Preece has a knack for creating characters with which readers will connect with.  I was interested in both Eva and Alex; their youth was apparent, and their inexperience made me feel more invested in their stories.  I found that I cared about Eva and Alex both as individuals and as a couple and that alone made it hard to stop reading.  The celebrity layer to this story made it even more entertaining and unique.  I have not read a romance with these tropes in quite some time, and I think many readers will be glad they gave this one a try!

Readers of romance, or who are interested in music will really enjoy Whiskey on Our Shoes by Tonya Preece.  Tonya has created a masterful story that will sweep you away and will have you looking for the nearest repurposed art store!
