Last week, when Lizzo played a 200-year-old Flute originally owned by former President James Madison, she created history. The singer has now been given a new chance: to play at Madison’s house! Super cool, right?

The Montpelier house in Virginia, serves as both a museum and a memorial to the former president. After Lizzo’s initial performance with Madison’s flute went viral, Montpelier staff tweeted that they had invited Lizzo to perform at James Madison’s house.

The staff stated in another tweet that the musician was welcome at Montpelier at any time. Madison, who is credited with creating the Bill of Rights, acquired the home as an inheritance.

He grew up in that house and resided there both before and after becoming president, until his passing in 1836. Visitors can now enjoy tours of the house and grounds. They can also view galleries and exhibitions there.

When Lizzo was invited by the Library of Congress to check out their flute collection, the largest in the world, she had the chance to play Madison’s Crystal Flute for the first time. When she was in Washington, D.C. for a gig, she accepted their invitation and went on a tour.

Of course, Madison’s flute was distinctive from the others. The crystal flute was nearly destroyed in April 1814, when the British entered Washington, D.C. during the War of 1812. However, Dolley Madison, the first lady, saved it from the White House.

Lizzo was permitted to use the instrument at her concert, in addition to using it in the Great Hall of the Library while she was there. The flute was delivered to Lizzo on stage after being safely transported to Capitol One Arena. She joked that trying out the delicate instrument was like “playing a wine glass.”

She began to play a few notes and declared that she was the first person to play the flute in 200 years, thus making history.
