Tell Mama, which promotes itself as the premier agency in measuring anti-Muslim hate, documented 2,010 occurrences of anti-Muslim abuse between October 7, 2023, and February 7, this year. Only 600 instances were reported over the same four-month period a year ago.

Of the total cases registered following the October 7 Hamas attacks, 1,109 were classified as online, while 901 were offline, Tell Mama said.

It documented incidents such as a Muslim woman in Islamic clothing being assaulted on a bus in east London and told “You Muslims are troublemakers”; a written death threat to mosque worshippers; a woman whose car was vandalized with a Nazi swastika; and cases of Muslim women being referred to as “terrorists.”.

Almost two-thirds of attacks targeted women, according to the organization, demonstrating “once again that British Muslim women have borne the majority of the brunt of anti-Muslim hate during this time.”

“We are deeply concerned about the effects of the Israel-Gaza war on hate crimes and social cohesion in the UK,” said Iman Atta, the organization’s director.

“Hate crimes against British Muslims have significantly increased, as our statistics clearly show.

“This increase in anti-Muslim hatred is abhorrent, and we hope that political leaders stand up to convey a clear message that anti-Muslim hatred, like anti-Semitism, is not tolerated in our country.”There is no space for hate and, more than ever, we must sustain, nurture, and protect the bonds that we have between communities so that we all feel valued and safe in our communities and our country.”

Rise in Anti-semitic Incidents in the Uk Represents ‘explosion in Hatred’

Earlier this month, the Community Security Trust (CST) reported an “explosion in hatred” against the Jewish community following the October 7 attacks.

The Community Security Trust (CST) documented almost 4,000 anti-Semitic occurrences in the UK in 2023, the highest total ever recorded, which the Trust attributed to the “sheer volume” that occurred in the aftermath of Hamas attacks.

The CST documented 4,103 anti-Semitic occurrences in the UK in 2023, up from the previous yearly record of 2,261 incidents registered two years earlier.

Tensions erupted throughout the House of Commons.
The episodes occurred amid heightened tensions generated by the Israel-Gaza war, with lawmakers walking out of the House of Commons following a debate on voting for a regional ceasefire.

Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle permitted Labour to change an SNP motion calling for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza, which enraged MPs.

On Thursday, Mr Hoyle renewed his regret for his role in Wednesday’s turbulent circumstances, highlighting worries about the safety of MPs who had experienced threats because of their views on the Middle East crisis.

“I have a duty of care and if my mistake is looking after members, I am guilty,” he told the House of Commons.

“I never, ever want to go through a situation where I pick up a phone to find a friend, of whatever side, has been murdered by terrorists.”

On Wednesday, during a protest in London demanding for a Gaza truce, a controversial pro-Palestinian message was projected onto Parliament.
