According to Russian-backed leaders in the controlled Luhansk region, Ukraine fired on the Adriatic Restaurant in Lysychansk on Saturday with a US-supplied shell.

According to a statement from Moscow-appointed official Leonid Pasechnik, the restaurant had a bakery set up for citizens who were caught up in the disaster and buried beneath its ruins.

Pasechnik stated that 28 individuals were killed in the blast, and another 10 were promptly rescued from the wreckage.

According to Russia’s emergency ministry, at least four additional individuals were brought out by Sunday morning, and all of them are in “extremely grave condition.”

Moscow’s Foreign Ministry condemned Saturday’s strike and attempted to use the episode to warn the European Union about how its money would be spent after the EU agreed to send 50 billion euros, or more than $54 billion, to Kyiv.

“EU citizens should know how their taxes are used–they are used to buy deadly weapons systems and send them to the Kyiv regime, which uses them to kill civilians,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement.

Ukrainian officials have yet to respond to Saturday’s incident.

The explosion in Luhansk came after a heightened series of strikes between Moscow and Kyiv over the last 24 hours, with Ukraine’s General Staff warning on Sunday that Russia had increased its assaults on the front lines.

According to Donetsk regional governor Vadym Filashkin, Russian artillery fire aimed at the border town of Toretsk killed one civilian and injured two more.

According to Kyiv officials, Russia fired 16 distinct shells at northern villages, while Ukraine responded with a series of counterattacks.

On Saturday, allegations circulated that a pair of Ukrainian drones damaged a large oil refinery in southwest Russia, causing a fire and marking the latest assault against the Kremlin’s fuel assets.

The drone strike targeted a refinery controlled by Lukoil, which has been described as “one of the leading companies in the Russian oil and gas industry.”

Reuters quoted a Ukrainian insider as saying, “By hitting oil refineries working for the Russian military-industrial complex, we not only cut off the logistics of fuel supplies for enemy equipment but also reduce the filling of the Russian budget.”
