The Dairy Shrine’s mission is to stimulate, inspire, and encourage tomorrow’s dairy leaders who are currently in classrooms, in dairy youth organizations, at dairy competitions, and on dairy farms across the United States. Since its establishment, Dairy Shrine has expanded its youth programs to capture and challenge the interest of outstanding dairy youth, recognizing the importance of laying a foundation for the future. A) Dairy Shrine Maurice E. Core Freshman Scholarships (1 at $1,000 & 2nd and greater – $1,000)

This scholarship is available to current freshman students at a four-year college majoring in a dairy/animal industry-related field, with an interest in working in the dairy industry in the future. The scholarship is based on leadership abilities, volunteerism, activities, and plans for the future. This scholarship is sponsored by the Maurice E. Core Scholarship fund, a fund created by donations from the Friends of Maurice E. Core, a longtime leader in the Jersey breed and Dairy Shrine.

B) Dairy Shrine McCullough Freshman Communications Scholarship (1 at $1,000 & 2nd and greater – $1,000)

This scholarship is available for freshmen at a four-year college or university majoring in Dairy/Animal Science with a Communications emphasis or Agricultural Journalism with a Dairy/Animal Science emphasis. The student must be planning on a future career in dairy journalism or communications. The scholarship is based on communication abilities, student activities, academic ability, and plans. This scholarship is funded by a bequest sponsored by Marshall E. McCullough, a well-known Georgia nutrition researcher, educator, and journalist.

C) Dairy Shrine Student Recognition Award for Seniors (1st – $2,000; 2nd – $1,500; 3rd and greater – $1,000)

The Dairy Shrine Student Recognition Award is designed to recognize and reward graduating university or four-year college seniors who are planning a career related to the dairy industry or production agriculture and who have demonstrated leadership skills, student activity participation, academic ability, and interest in the dairy industry. Each university can nominate up to two students for this award.

D) Dairy Shrine Merton Sowerby Junior Merit Scholarship (1st – $1,500; 2nd and greater – $1,000)

These scholarships are available for current junior students at a four-year college who are planning a career in the dairy industry. Major areas of study include Dairy Science, Agricultural Economics or Accounting, Dairy Genetics, Dairy Equipment, Dairy Nutrition, Dairy Feed, or Pharmaceutical sales, Dairy Consultant, Dairy Extension, Dairy research, or Professor. Scholarships are based on leadership, activities, academic ability, and interest in the dairy industry. This scholarship is named in honor of Merton Sowerby, a long-time Guernsey classifier, well-known herdsman, National Dairy Shrine Pioneer, and member of the National Dairy Hall of Fame.

E) Dairy Shrine / DMI Milk Marketing & Dairy Products Scholarship (1st – $1,500; 2nd and greater – $1,000)

The Dairy Shrine and DMI Milk Marketing & Dairy Products Scholarship offer a first-place prize of $1,500 and second and greater place prizes of $1,000 each. The scholarship is available to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in dairy/animal science, food science, or a related field, with a focus on dairy. Applicants must have completed at least two years of college and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. They must also demonstrate leadership skills and involvement in extracurricular activities related to the dairy industry.

F) Dairy Shrine Kildee Graduate School Scholarship (Up to 2 at $3,000)

The Dairy Shrine Kildee Graduate School Scholarship offers up to two scholarships of $3,000 each. This scholarship is aimed at supporting students pursuing a graduate degree in a dairy-related field, such as dairy science, animal science, food science, agricultural education, or a related field. The Dairy Shrine is an organization dedicated to preserving the history of the dairy industry and supporting its future leaders.

G) Dairy Shrine Mike Lancaster Sophomore Merit Scholarship (1st – $1,500; 2nd and greater – $1,000)

The Dairy Shrine Mike Lancaster Sophomore Merit Scholarship is awarded to deserving sophomore students pursuing a degree in dairy science or a related field. The scholarship provides a monetary award of $1,500 for the first-place winner and $1,000 for the second and greater winners. The scholarship is sponsored by Dairy Shrine, a non-profit organization that promotes the dairy industry and supports the development of future leaders in the field.

H) Dairy Shrine / DMI Education & Communication Scholarship (1st – $1,500; 2nd and greater – $1,000)

The Dairy Shrine / DMI Education & Communication Scholarship offers $1,500 for the first-place winner and $1,000 for the second and subsequent winners. This scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are majoring in communications or education with a dairy industry emphasis. Applicants must have completed their freshman year of college and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship is awarded by Dairy Shrine, a non-profit organization that honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the dairy industry.

I) Dairy Shrine Iager Scholarship for Two Year College Students (up to 2 at $1,000)

The Dairy Shrine Iager Scholarship is available for students who plan to pursue a two-year degree in an agriculture-related field. This scholarship provides up to two recipients with $1,000 each to help cover the cost of tuition, books, and other educational expenses. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be enrolled or planning to enroll in a two-year college program. They must also demonstrate financial need, leadership qualities, and a commitment to the dairy industry.

J) Klussendorf / McKown Scholarships (7 at $1,500)

The Klussendorf/McKown Scholarship is an annual scholarship program that awards seven scholarships of $1,500 each to undergraduate students who are majoring in dairy science, animal science, agriculture, or a related field. The scholarship is sponsored by the Klussendorf Association and McKown Fund and is administered by the National Dairy Shrine.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, have completed at least two years of study, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to the dairy industry through their academic and extracurricular activities, and provide letters of recommendation from academic and industry professionals.

The scholarship application typically opens in January and closes in April. Applicants are required to complete an online application form and submit transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement outlining their career goals and commitment to the dairy industry.
