The public institution, Flinders University is located in Adelaide, South Australia. It was founded in 1966, and its name honors sailor Matthew Flinders, who in the early 19th century surveyed and documented the South Australian coastline.

The scholarship includes a paid, eight to a twelve-week summer internship at Nyrstar’s Port Pirie Smelter. The internships must be completed before the start of the third-year and fourth-year academic terms.

Although scholarship recipients will get generous pay for each work placement, they are still responsible for covering their own living expenses.

Playford Trust/Nyrstar Scholarship Requirements

Candidates should be:

• Prepared to start third-year undergraduate studies in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering at one of South Australia’s three public universities.
• Ready to complete an 8–12 week paid work placement at Nyrstar’s Port Pirie Smelter over the summer break, before to their third and fourth years of education, in order to build their abilities and improve their industry engagement.
• Enthusiastic about the mining and smelting sectors.
• A resident of South Australia who is an Australian citizen or who has a permanent residence visa.
• Planning to work in South Australia for a considerable portion of their career or is likely to help the State.
• A high achiever with a stellar undergraduate academic record and a morally upright personality. Students with leadership potential will be given preference.
• Students from South Australia’s mid-north or those who identify as indigenous will also be given preference. All qualified students are urged to submit applications, nevertheless.
