The World Health Organization (WHO) Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases supported the establishment of the African Regional Training Centre (ARTC) in 2014. (TDR).

The center was established to strategically lead the development of Implementation Research (IR) capacity in the African region, where unanticipated barriers and context-specific complexities impede access to effective tools that prevent interventions from reaching target populations, resulting in suboptimal health outcomes.

What TDR Postgraduate Scholarship Offers

The award comprises:

• One economy round-trip flight from the student’s home nation to Accra, Ghana;
• Tuition and educational costs;
• Standard medical and accident coverage;
• A monthly payment to cover living expenditures, including housing costs, compared to those in the host country; and
• Funding for a research project or thesis-related costs incurred during data collection.

Criteria for the TDR Postgraduate Scholarship

Candidates should:

• Be citizens and permanent residents of a low- or middle-income country (as defined by the World Bank) in the WHO African Region;
• Age should be less than 35 at the time of application;
• Meet the University of Ghana’s standard admission standards for foreign or local graduate students (for postgraduate admission requirements at the University of Ghana, see the article on how to apply for postgraduate programs);
• Be interested in pursuing a career in poverty-related infectious disease implementation research;
• Be conversant in English;
• Provide evidence of your ability to secure study leave from your employer (if applicable) prior to the program’s start; and
• Consent to meet health requirements in accordance with Government of Ghana and University of Ghana laws.
