Mohammad Hafeez bids ‘farewell’ to his post as PCB’s director cricket

Former Pakistani Cricket player Mohammad Hafeez has said goodbye to his role as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.

This occurs as a result of Mohsin Naqvi, the recently appointed PCB Chairman, turning down Hafeez’s request to meet with him in order to present his report on the tour of Australia and New Zealand.

In November 2023, Hafeez took over as director of cricket from Mickey Arthur as part of a significant managerial transition within the team in the wake of the Green Shirts’ appalling results in the Asia Cup and the World Cup.

According to sources, Hafeez and the PCB have chosen to split up since the board isn’t keen on collaborating with the former cricket player.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board extends heartfelt gratitude to Mohammad Hafeez, Director Pakistan men’s cricket team, for his invaluable contributions,” the board said in a statement.

“Players have been motivated by Hafeez’s love of the game, and his guidance on the trip of Australia and New Zealand has been invaluable. “We wish Hafeez continued success and good fortune in all of his future endeavours,” the PCB stated.

Hafeez has played for Pakistan in 55 Test matches, 218 One-Day Internationals, and 119 Twenty20 Internationals. He has amassed 12,780 runs and 253 wickets.

It was already stated that Hafeez’s chemistry with the senior players wasn’t the best during the New Zealand tour.

The players reportedly took issue with Hafeez’s lengthy meetings and his strict methods for managing the team, according to insiders.

In addition, famous cricket players Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Azam Khan, and others received No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for playing in the ILT20.

Hafeez, however, paused when players requested NOCs for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), endangering their contracts.

According to team sources, if neither Hafeez nor the players alter their current methods of managing situations, there’s a chance that their relationship will get worse.
