Maryam Nawaz’s son Junaid Safdar confirms divorce

Junaid Safdar, the son of Maryam Nawaz, Vice President and Chief Organiser of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stated on Thursday that he and his wife had divorced, more than two years after they had tied the knot in a wedding ceremony.

In an Instagram story, Safdar confirmed that the rumours regarding his divorce were accurate.

Since PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif was living in self-exile in London at the time of the couple’s wedding, the wedding ceremonies and celebrations took place in both London and Pakistan. The pair tied the knot in August of 2021.

During their time together, the pair chose to remain out of the public eye and away from the scrutiny of the media.

According to the story, the son of a seasoned politician was quoted as saying that “this is an entirely private matter and I request the media to respect our privacy.”

“In the name of Allah, I pray that this decision would allow us to find peace. Regarding this issue, I will not elaborate any further.”

“I hope everything works out for her,” Junaid continued.

As soon as the news was publicised, Junaid withdrew all of the photographs that he had posted to Instagram with his ex-wife.
