5 Things You Didn’t Know About The Beatles

The Beatles is one of the milestones in pop-rock and popular culture. In this article, we listed 5 things you didn’t know about The Beatles band and their members.

The Beatles were an English rock band formed in 1960 in Liverpool by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They are often recognized as the most influential band, essential in developing 1960s counterculture and popular music’s acceptance as an art form. Their sound, rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock ‘n’ roll, innovatively blended classical music and traditional pop elements. The band also explored styles ranging from folk and Indian music to psychedelic and hard rock.

The Beatles revolutionized many parts of the music industry as pioneers in recording, songwriting, and artistic presentation, and they were frequently portrayed as leaders of the era’s social and sociological movements

The Beatles’ journey to fame was a rage of creation and friendship, from their early days performing in Liverpool’s clubs to conquering the world’s stages. Early songs like “Love Me Do” and “Please Please Me” set the tone for a musical revolution that would sweep the world, dubbed “Beatlemania.”

The Beatles delivered a run of critically praised albums as they continued to push musical limits, each displaying their evolution as composers and performers. Classics such as “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Help!,” “Rubber Soul,” “Revolver,” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” give tribute to their development and creativity.

Their final studio album, “Abbey Road,” released in 1969, cemented their reputation as great musical innovators. Hits like “Come Together” and “Here Comes the Sun” demonstrated the band’s ability to create memorable melodies, while “The End” served as an iconic and poignant send-off.

Aside from their musical accomplishments, The Beatles were instrumental in defining the 1960s counterculture movement. Their embracing of Eastern spirituality, drug experimentation, and advocacy for peace and love spoke to a youth eager for change.

The Beatles separated in 1970, yet their legacy lives on. Each member went on to have successful solo careers, solidifying their separate gifts.

You probably know lots of things about The Beatles. However, you will be amazed at what you are missing about The Beatles band until now. Let’s find out interesting things about The Beatles:

1. John Lennon’s hero was Elvis Presley in the rock and roll history

Elvis Presley was a young John Lennon’s idol, and the American singer was a key reason why Lennon eventually chose a career in show business. The young Lennon would dress like Elvis Presley and comb his hair similarly.

When The Beatles became famous, Brian Epstein, their manager, arranged for them to see Elvis in America. Although the meeting was polite and the musicians enjoyed a brief jam session, Lennon felt Elvis seemed uninterested in talking with them and wasn’t engaging in person.

John Lennon‘s reason to love Elvis Presley:

“Without Elvis, there would be no The Beatles. When I first heard ‘Heartbreak Hotel’… me whole life changed from then on; I was just completely shaken by it.”

2. Wu-Tang Clan’s “The 8 Diagrams” (2007)

This album “The 8 Diagrams” by Wu-Tang Clan featured a guest appearance by George Harrison’s only son, Dhani. The album’s first single covered the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” called “The Heart Gently Weeps.”

The album marked the Wu-Tang Clan’s first full cooperation since the death of founding member Ol’ Dirty Bastard in 2004. In honor of ODB, here’s another The Beatles song, “Love Me Do” and more.

Instead, “The Heart Gently Weeps,” a reworking of The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” was released as the first official single. Dhani Harrison, George Harrison’s son, and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers played acoustic and lead guitars, respectively.

It was initially considered to be sampled music, but it was later proven to be an interpolated version of Jimmy Ponder’s cover of the song. Raekwon, Ghostface, and Method Man rap on the track, with Erykah Badu providing guest vocals. Stone Mecca, one of the newest Wu-Tang bands, also supplied backing music to the way, according to RZA.

3. John Lennon’s “Imagine” piano story

George was a huge The Beatles fan. Over the years, he covered songs like ‘The Long and Winding Road’ and ‘Get Back.’ He has worked with Paul McCartney several times, including a duet rendition of ‘Heal the Pain.’

When the ‘Imagine’ piano went up for auction at the Hard Rock Café in London in 2000, George chose to buy it so it could stay in the UK. He is also said to have outbid the Gallagher brothers and Robbie Williams for the piano.

George also explained why he bought this piano from the auction:

“It’s not the type of thing that should be in storage somewhere or being protected; it should be seen by people.”

4. Biggest nerd in the band

You are curious about why who is the biggest nerd in The Beatles band? The answer is that George Harrison was the most gearhead from the start of the Beatles.

The Beatles detailed their goals in an interview with NME magazine in early 1963. Lennon: “To write a musical”; McCartney: “To have my picture in the Dandy”; Harrison: “To design a guitar”; and Starr: “To be happy.” George Harrison told Beatles Monthly once.

Here is George Harrison talked about this:

“I believe I love my guitar more than the others love theirs. For John and Paul, songwriting is pretty important and guitar playing is a means to an end. While they’re making up new tunes, I can thoroughly enjoy myself just doodling around with a guitar for a whole evening. I’m fascinated by new sounds I can get from different instruments I try out. I’m not sure that makes me particularly musical. Just call me a guitar fanatic instead, and I’ll be satisfied.”

Additional details about the piano: George Michael toured it worldwide “as a symbol of peace,” and utilized it during the 2004 recording of his song “Patience.”

The piano traveled to the United States in 2007 as part of a peace tour organized by George and his then-partner Kenny Goss.

5. The reason why The Beatles doesn’t use Fender Guitars until 1965

John Lennon and Fender

Fender guitars were not used by The Beatles until 1965. They’d already released four and a half albums by that point.

This supposedly set them apart from The Shadows, known for using Fender guitars and featured guitarist Hank Marvin. During Beatlemania, The Beatles’ adoption of the Epiphone Casino catapulted the guitar to tremendous global sales, exceeding the Gibson equivalent, the ES-330.

Paul McCartney’s image is linked with the Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass, making the theft of his original bass all the more startling. McCartney bought the bass in 1962 at the Steinway Musichaus in Hamburg, Germany.

Here is Paul McCartney’s thoughts on why they doesn’t use until 1985:

“There was this bass which was quite cheap…

I couldn’t afford a Fender; even then, they seemed to be about £100. All I could really afford was about £30, so for about £30 I found this Hofner violin bass. And to me it seemed like, because I was left-handed, it looked less daft. Because it was symmetrical. Didn’t look as bad as a cutaway which was the wrong way. So I got into that.”
