Jane Fonda, 85, announces she's taking a break from acting

Jane Fonda, the 85-year-old Hollywood icon, revealed her decision to take a substantial hiatus from her acting career owing to the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

This announcement came while she was present at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on June 10th. At the festival, the esteemed actress was honored with the Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award, presented by singer Alicia Keys, who performed the honors.
Fonda has been known for decades-long political activism, supporting various causes including women's rights, and climate action, and even campaigning against the Vietnam War.

Following her acceptance of the award, Jane Fonda, renowned for her role in "Grace and Frankie," engaged in an on-stage interview with Robin Roberts. During the conversation, she disclosed her intention to take a hiatus from acting in preparation for the 2024 presidential election.

Robin Roberts, the 62-year-old broadcaster, inquired about Fonda's plans for the next 18 months, prompting the actress to reveal her focus on raising awareness about climate change. Fonda emphasized the interconnectedness of nature, highlighting humanity's dependence on oceans and forests for oxygen and sustenance. She expressed the urgency to address the environmental crisis, emphasizing that current generations bear the responsibility to initiate change.

Fonda, who established the Jane Fonda Climate PAC last year, further expressed her commitment to support climate champions in political office during her break from acting. She advocated for mobilizing efforts to hold President Biden accountable while acknowledging the necessity to vote for him. Fonda underscored the dire consequences of inaction, emphasizing the need to galvanize public anger and demand substantial progress.

While discussing her role in the political landscape, the "Barbarella" actress firmly stated that she had no aspirations for a presidential run. She acknowledged the importance of recognizing one's strengths as they age, clarifying that the role of the president does not align with her personal aspirations.
Continuing from the Awards ceremony at the Cannes Film Festival last month, an amusing incident unfolded involving the actress from the film "Book Club" who playfully tossed the Palme d'Or at the director who won.

Jane Fonda had the honor of presenting the prestigious award to French filmmaker Justine Triet for her captivating thriller "Anatomy Of A Fall," which revolves around a woman facing allegations of her husband's murder.

Upon graciously receiving the accolade and stepping away from the podium, the 44-year-old director inadvertently left her acceptance speech behind on the lectern. Fonda attempted to catch her attention, but when the recipient failed to notice, the "Monster in Law" actress grew frustrated and playfully launched the scroll towards the filmmaker.

Surprisingly, the director appeared unfazed by Fonda's action, leading the award-winning star to express her disbelief with a sigh and a gesture of defeat, raising her arms in the air.

We hope that we can still catch Fonda at award shows during her acting hiatus.
