In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, the 46-year-old outlined the reasons behind her departure from Hallmark, explaining that the channel became "a completely different network than when [she] started."
In 2020, the former CEO of Hallmark Media, Bill Abbott, made the decision to step down from his role following a scandal that saw the production company pull an ad that featured a lesbian couple. The sudden U-turn on the decision was prompted by the conservative group One Million Moms, which hinted that the wholesome ad was somehow inappropriate.
Later, it emerged that Abbott had given in to pressure of a potential boycott and canceled the commercial entirely.

However, since he left the company, it seems as though Hallmark has been trying to diversify its range of Christmas stories, with its most recent being The Holiday Sitter.
Starring Jonathan Bennett, Matthew James Dowden, and Chelsea Hobbs, The Holiday Sitter tells the story of an unexpected romance between neighbors Sam and Jason. This marks a milestone for the network as it is set to be its first ever Christmas movie led by a same-sex couple.

"I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment," she told The Wall Street Journal. "I think that [the company] will keep traditional marriage at the core."

"Now they’re just openly admitting their bigotry," she wrote in a tweet reply. "I called this s*** out years ago when Abbott was at Hallmark. Glad they dumped him."
"Being LGBTQ isn’t a 'trend'," she continued. "That guy and his network are disgusting. You too Candy. There is nothing untraditional about same-sex couples."
And Burton wasn't the only one who had a problem with the comments made in the interview.
YouTuber and former Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa also slammed Cameron Bure for her insensitivity, writing that her words were "rude" and "disrespectful."
"Honestly, I can't believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press. This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people," she wrote on Instagram.
Cameron Bure has not yet addressed the backlash to her interview.
