This summer's bridalwear is as unique as it is showstopping

And if the occasion doesn’t call for the top-to- toe look Rita Ora’s gone for, you can still turn heads by clashing your colours — try pairing the lime green swimsuit with the purple tote bag. It’s just the shot of escapist chic most of us need on a staycation.

Angela says: This Dress appears to have it all. It’s also incredibly easy to shimmy in and out of.  And I don’t need to worry about overheating. The sparkling wink of pewter sequins fulfils the black-tie remit, while the ruched front and back result in a beautifully draped fit.

The v-neck and cap sleeves are far less ‘obvious’ than spaghetti straps, offering sanctuary for any tone-free zones I may wish to hide.

You can’t go wrong: This is couture craftsmanship at ready-to-wear prices. Or recreate her look with LKBennet, Asos Design and Rococo Sand, all budgets covered.  Pick up Nicole’s dress now before it sells out forever.

Consider elevating your basics, too. I won’t be confining them to my flat, either — this is loungewear with a grown-up edge, that will look just as good paired with an overcoat and boots as it does with a pair of fluffy slippers. I’ll be swapping out my black leggings for a mood-boosting striped pair from Sweaty Betty.

Take Artilect’s streamlined pieces, made with fine merino wool which helps regulate body temperature naturally. One of the most versatile extra layers you can buy is a cosy wool-and-merino gilet in winter white, pictured above, which will always look elegant, whether you’re in your living room or meeting a friend for lunch in a cafe.

Sophie says: The ruching on this dress is flatteringly positioned.

It is fabulous and glam while remaining subtle and grown up, but I agree with Angela that it feels safe. Perhaps better suited to a party rather than one of the most important events of your life.

The past two years have changed our attitudes to dressing down; clothes we wouldn’t have worn beyond our front doors pre-pandemic are now classed as acceptable daytime attire. And the trend isn’t going away any time soon.

The couple have requested black tie to bring a touch of Hollywood glamour to the event.

It’s something I embrace, offering extra licence to swish and sparkle.  How, though, to begin such a search? Perhaps with the dress code.

Cinched at the waist with a small, puffed sleeve, it ticks all the boxes – comfy, cleavage-free, elegant and eye-catching. This isn’t prim, it’s relaxed Scandinavian glamour (Valle & Vik founder Silje Vallevik was born in Norway). I think Mum would agree that not all frocks are created equal.  I love it – decision made.

Right, top, £28, asos.com; leggings, £59, acaioutdoorwear.com; green socks, £7, prettypolly.co.uk; grey socks, £9.99 (three pack), Elle at sockshop.co.uk Left, zip top, £110, round-neck top (underneath), £100, and leggings, £100, all artilect.

Think of the new season’s offerings as a chic update to your loungewear collection — a way to refresh your style without saying goodbye to those blissful elasticated waistbands. The solution is the latest sleek-yet-practical thermal sets in bright colours and luxe materials.

Team these berry-coloured flares from Next with a navy jumper and chunky gold jewellery for a laid-back weekend look, or wear with the matching zip-top and a contrasting roll-neck for extra warmth at home. I love a matching set, where the pieces work either together or separately.

This colour is gorgeous on Angela and I could see she felt fabulous in it. The brand has a variety of colours and prints, so look for ones that go with your colouring.

I love this on Angela – but I still stand by the drama of that one-shoulder number!  The shape is cut flatteringly and the print is feminine but cool. The material is light and doesn’t cling to those wobbly bits we try to hide.

The details of this dress are what makes it look expensive: cowl back, nipped-in waist and dramatic sleeves. Colour-blocking in this gorgeous rich tone is bold but not aggressive, and exudes confidence and elegance.

I’m a menopausal size ten, with a spreading cup and doughy tummy. I want to be able to sit elegantly without fidgeting. All of which means no plunging cleavage or scratchy material. Wedding days are physically demanding and emotionally draining. There are other factors to consider, too. And I want, above all, to celebrate, be it slouchy slow dances or a life-enhancing hora (this is a Jewish wedding). The outfit will have to accommodate an ill-timed hot flush.

That’s why comfort is the dealbreaker.
