Nitish Should Thank PM For His CM Tenure: BJP On Friendship Remark

Mumbai: BJP’s Samrat Choudhary has said BJP’s doors are closed for Bihar CM Nitish Kumar after the latter during a convocation ceremony said his relationship with BJP will continue as long as he’s alive.

He said CM Nitish should be thankful to PM Narendra Modi for “financial assistance to the tune of billions of rupees” and for his tenure as CM.

The statement was made by State BJP President Samrat Choudhary in response to questions from media concerning the JD(U) leader’s speech at the Mahatma Gandhi Central University’s convocation ceremony in Motihari.

Speaking in front of Governor Rajendra Arlekar and President Droupadi Murmu, Kumar candidly discussed his battle at the Centre with the Congress administration of the time to secure approval for a university in Motihari, the site of Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha launch.

Kumar stated that the initiative only came to be after a change of leadership “in 2014,” noting that the UPA administration “initially refused and after much persuasion agreed in principle but did not move forward.” Kumar did not specifically address Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In keeping with his “lifelong personal friendship,” Kumar also vowed to honour Radha Mohan Singh, the local BJP MP who served as the first Modi cabinet’s agricultural minister.

Choudhary, a BJP politician, responded to a question on Kumar’s comments made during the convocation ceremony by using the Bihari adage “doodh bhaat,” which is frequently used to make fun of immature behaviour.

“Only yesterday, during the launch of the Fourth Agriculture Roadmap, did we witness the Chief Minister attempting to appear amicable with the governor while sharing the platform on a serious occasion,” Choudhary remarked.

“You may be the Center’s appointee but I have nothing against it,” Kumar had said to Governor Rajendra Arlekar while he was addressing at the event.

But according to Choudhary, “Nitish Kumar should be grateful to Narendra Modi for financial assistance totaling billions of rupees as well as for the central university.”

Additionally, he remarked that “Kumar should thank PM Modi” for his current position.

“Despite the JD(U) leader’s party losing the assembly elections, the PM fulfilled his pledge to support him for a second term in office,” Choudhary stated.

“As for his talk of personal friendship with any BJP leader, we need to assert that our party is run on the basis of policy and not personal equations,” he continued.

“Our doors are closed forever for Nitish Kumar, as our Home Minister Amit Shah has made clear,” Choudhary said.

Notably, after dumping the BJP in August last year, Kumar had survived in power as a result of an alliance he formed with the Mahagathbandhan, comprising arch-rival Lalu Prasad’s RJD, Congress and three Left-wing parties.

Charging the BJP with trying to destabilise the JD(U) while in alliance, Kumar had vowed to defeat the NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls by bringing together opposition parties across the country.

His efforts culminated in the formation of the INDIA coalition
