Mumbai: PM Narendra Modi during his address to ISRO scientists involved in the Chandrayaan-3 mission said that the site where the mission’s Vikram lander landed on the Moon’s surface will be called ‘Shivashakti Point’.
After arriving from Greece, Mr. Modi addressed ISRO scientists at the Isro Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru, saying: “The location where the Chandrayaan-3 lunar lander landed will now be called as Shiv Shakti. In Shiv, there is a commitment to the welfare of humanity, and Shakti empowers us to carry out those commitments. The moon’s Shiv Shakti point also makes Kanyakumari feel connected to the Himalayas.”
The area where Chandrayaan-2 left its imprints will now be known as Tiranga, and it will serve as motivation for all of India’s endeavours and a reminder that failure does not mean the end.
‘India now among first-world countries’
He also appreciated the significant contribution made by female scientists to the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s accomplishment.
He said that India is now among the first-world nations and has the fifth-largest economy in the world.
Institutions like our ISRO “have played a huge role in the journey from third row to first row,” he remarked.
Mr. Modi also urged students nationwide to participate in a sizable quiz competition on the Chandrayaan mission that MyGov will be hosting starting on September 1 and asked ISRO to organise national hackathons on space technology in governance in collaboration with various departments of the centre and state governments.
He asked the nation’s youth to step up and provide scientific evidence for the Indian scriptures’ astronomical calculations.
“It is also important for our heritage and also important for science. In a way, this is a double responsibility for the students at schools, colleges and universities today. The treasure of scientific knowledge that India has, has been buried, hidden during the long period of slavery. In this Azadi ka Amrit Kaal, we have to explore this treasure too, do research on it and also tell the world about it,” Mr. Modi said.
