‘Mission: Impossible’ 8 Release Date Pushed Back with New Subtitle in the Works (Reports)

The eighth installment in the ‘Mission: Impossible‘ franchise, originally titled ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two,’ will now be released on May 23, 2025, instead of the initial date of June 28, 2024. Additionally, the subtitle ‘Dead Reckoning Part Two’ is set to be replaced with a new one.

Why was production on ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ halted?

According to reports, Paramount Pictures has halted production on ‘Mission: Impossible 8‘ due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, and it won’t be ready for next summer. This challenge could affect many major film releases if the union and studios don’t reach an agreement soon. As part of this change, the ‘A Quiet Place: Day One‘ prequel, initially set for March 8, 2024, will now be released on June 28, 2024. Also, an untitled ‘SpongeBob SquarePants‘ animated adventure, originally scheduled for May 23, 2025, has been postponed to December 19, 2025.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One‘ concluded its domestic run with $172 million, marking one of the year’s biggest flops. Internationally, it grossed $393 million, bringing the worldwide total to $566 million against a $220 million budget.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and co-written by McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen, the film stars Tom Cruise as the iconic character Ethan Hunt. Joining an ensemble cast, including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Esai Morales, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, and Henry Czerny. Read our review.
