Exclusive: ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 Writers Room to Resume After Writers’ Strike Ends

Exclusive: The writers’ room for ‘Yellowjackets‘ Season 3 is set to resume this Wednesday, October 4, 2023, after the writers’ strike ended.

The show, created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, was renewed for a third season in December 2022, even before its second season aired. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lyle and Nickerson revealed they plan for the show to have five seasons, and they’re sticking to that plan. They don’t see it going beyond five seasons.

Lyle said, “I think that there are shows that can go forever, but I think that when you’re telling such a deeply serialized story and it’s about these characters’ lives, you want to reach a satisfying conclusion and not just drag things out forever. This isn’t really one of those setup shows where it can go anywhere. So far, we’ve been really on track.” She added, “Season 2 is largely what we always planned, but you do make a lot of discoveries along the way and so it’s always a little bit surprising.”

What is the Plot of Yellowjackets?

Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story, and coming-of-age drama, Yellowjackets is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.

‘Yellowjackets’ stars Tawny Cypress as Adult Taissa, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Teen Taissa, Melanie Lynskey as Adult Shauna, Sophie Nélisse as Teen Shauna, Juliette Lewis as Adult Natalie, Sophie Thatcher as Teen Natalie, Christina Ricci as Adult Misty, Sammi Hanratty as Teen Misty, Ella Purnell as Jackie Taylor, Steven Krueger as Ben Scott, Warren Kole as Adult Jeff, Simone Kessell as Adult Lottie, Courtney Eaton as Teen Lottie, Lauren Ambrose as Adult Vanessa, Liv Hewson as Teen Vanessa, and Kevin Alves as Teen Travis.

According to Deadline, The writers’ rooms for shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds: Evolution, 9-1-1, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and The Simpsons are all scheduled to start back on Monday.

Next week, writers’ rooms for various TV shows are set to start. These include CBS Studios’ Ghosts, NCIS, Fire Country, and The Neighborhood, among others. Also, Warner Bros. TV plans to open writers’ rooms for shows like Abbott Elementary (ABC), The Sex Lives of College Girls (Max), Young Sheldon (CBS), The Cleaning Lady, and Rescue: Hi-Surf (Fox). Fox Entertainment’s Animal Control and Sony TV/Fox Entertainment’s Alert are also on the list.

Universal Television’s Quantum Leap, which was in production when the WGA strike began, is reopening its Season 2 writers’ room. Additionally, Law & Order and FBI from the same studio are expected to resume writing next week, possibly joined by Law & Order: SVU. Mike Schur’s new Netflix comedy series, The Mole Agent, starring Ted Danson, is also considering opening its writers’ room next week.

The release date for ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 is to be announced (TBA).
