Paramount Animation is Developing a ‘Superworld’ Movie Adaptation (Exclusive)

Paramount Animation and Temple Hill are developing a ‘Superworld‘ movie based on the book series, with Brad Butler overseeing the project, as confirmed by Deadline.

Superworld is a book series by Yarrow and Carrie Cheney. The upcoming Paramount film will be based on ‘Superworld: Save Noah,’ published by Random House Children’s Books in November 2022. The second book in the series, ‘Superworld: Destructo World,’ is scheduled to be published by Random House Children’s Books in early 2025.

What is the Plot of Superworld?

In the film adaptation of ‘Superworld,’ the story unfolds in an alternate world where everyone possesses superpowers. However, a supervillain has taken over. The one kid who lacks special abilities is the only person who’s able to steal the Super Stone that keeps the villain in control—but to do that, he must pull off the dangerous heist while rallying his hero friends in a war against the villains.

The film’s cast, director, filming date, and release date haven’t been announced yet. They’re aiming for a late 2025 release.

Yarrow and Carrie Cheney are a creative couple who met in 1992 as freshmen at the California Institute of the Arts, where they shared an animation workspace. Together, they created, wrote, and directed the animated short film ‘The Very First Noel.’

Yarrow co-directed the successful 2016 Illumination/Universal animated movie ‘The Secret Life of Pets,’ which earned over $894 million worldwide. Additionally, he worked as a production designer on ‘Despicable Me‘ and its sequel, as well as on Illumination’s ‘Dr. Seuss‘ The Lorax.’ Yarrow also served as the lead director for Illumination’s ‘The Grinch,’ which grossed over $526 million.

Paramount’s animation lineup is growing significantly. They had success with ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,’ which earned over $170 million worldwide. Upcoming releases include ‘Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie‘ on Sept. 29, 2023, ‘Transformers One‘ on July 19, 2024, an untitled Smurfs movie on February 14, 2025, and ‘The SpongeBob Movie: The Search for SquarePants‘ on May 23, 2025.
