Netflix Announces Renewal: ‘One Piece’ Returns for Season 2

One Piece‘ has been renewed for Season 2 on Netflix. Season 1 is the No. 1 show in 86 countries, breaking its previous record of 84 countries. It also outperformed “Stranger Things” Season 4 and “Wednesday,” which were ranked No. 1 in 83 countries. Also, it debuted at the top of Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10 with 18.5 million views (140.1 million hours), making it the highest-ranking English TV series since the chart reform in June 2023. Currently, it holds the title of the most popular TV show on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.

In the announcement video, executive producer (and creator of the original manga) Eiichiro Oda said, “To the Straw Hat Grand Fleet: What did you think of Season 1 of the live-action One Piece? I spent a long time working on it with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios.” Oda added, “It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it. To everyone who’s been a fan of One Piece for years and to those who experienced One Piece for the first time, thank you so much. Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news: Netflix has decided to renew the show! The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward! It’ll still take a while to get the scripts ready, so please be patient. From here on, it seems to me the Straw Hats will need a great doctor… We will see!”

The show’s executive producer, Becky Clements, said that if Season 2 happens, it could arrive 12–18 months after the strike, as the scripts are prepared. They have plans for at least six seasons and hope for twelve. The manga has over 1,080 chapters and is ongoing.

But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will need to assemble the crew he’s always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.
