For Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan Recreated the first Nuclear Weapon Detonation without using CGI. We all know that Nolan is a master of filmmaking, he is awesome at making reality with visuals. In Nolan’s previous film, Tenet, he crashed a real 747 plane on the set in Victorville, California. VFX supervisor Andrew Jackson already told that Nolan is “very committed to filming as much as he can in camera.”

In an interview with Total Film, Nolan says he recreated the first nuclear weapon detonation without the use of CGI for ‘Oppenheimer.’ He said, “I think recreating the Trinity test [the first nuclear weapon detonation, in New Mexico] without the use of computer graphics, was a huge challenge to take on.” “Andrew Jackson – my visual effects supervisor, who I brought on board early on – was looking at how we could do a lot of the visual elements of the film practically, from representing quantum dynamics and quantum physics to the Trinity test itself, to recreating, with my team, Los Alamos up on a mesa in New Mexico in extraordinary weather, a lot of which was needed for the film, in terms of the very harsh conditions out there,” Nolan added.

The film is directed by Christopher Nolan, and it is based on the true story of J. Robert Oppenheimer played by Cillian Murphy. Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, leading to the development of the atomic bomb. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Matthew Modine, and Florence Pugh.

Nolan also noted that the film is a historical biopic. it contains “big, logistical challenges, big practical challenges.” He told, “It’s a story of immense scope and scale,” says Nolan. “And one of the most challenging projects I’ve ever taken on in terms of the scale of it, and in terms of encountering the breadth of Oppenheimer’s story. There were big, logistical challenges, big practical challenges. But I had an extraordinary crew, and they really stepped up. It will be a while before we’re finished. But certainly, as I watch the results come in, and as I’m putting the film together, I’m thrilled with what my team has been able to achieve.”

Oppenheimer will hit theaters on July 21, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
