According to reports from NBC affiliate WILX-TV and the Lansing State Journal, the Clinton County Sheriff's Office stated that they do not suspect foul play in Jermaine's disappearance and subsequent death. The search for the toddler began after he wandered away from his home in Watertown Township. The boy, who was nonverbal, was last seen by witnesses walking north on Bauer Road near Avalon and Riverside Drive shortly after he left his home.
Despite the extensive search efforts involving over 500 volunteers and specialized search crews, the heartbreaking discovery was made in the nearby river. Law enforcement agencies, including Michigan State Police and Michigan’s Emergency Management & Homeland Security Department, collaborated in the search operation.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted on Jermaine's body to determine the exact cause of his death. Meanwhile, the community has rallied together to support Jermaine's family during this difficult time. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established to help cover the unexpected funeral costs, and it has already garnered overwhelming support, with donations exceeding $10,000 as of Wednesday morning.
