According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 45-year-old driver struck Kris' Tesla with his Chevrolet Suburban SUV. This tragic accident claimed the lives of Kris and Dhruva, leaving their loved ones in unimaginable grief. Kris' mother, Nina Chellani, was also seriously injured in the crash, sustaining a broken back.
Nina Chellani was transported to a nearby hospital, where she underwent surgery. The State Highway Patrol has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the incident.
In response to this heartbreaking loss, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the Chellani family during this difficult time. Friends and well-wishers have rallied together, raising nearly $90,000 to assist the family.
The Chellanis' apparel shop, Classic Carolina, located in Chapel Hill, is currently closed following the tragedy. The store, which has been in the family since 1993, had recently undergone renovations and was set to reopen before the accident.
Kris Chellani had been expected to eventually take over the family business, which held a special place in their hearts. He and his father had worked tirelessly to renovate the store, with many exciting plans for its future.

Highway Patrol investigators, along with the Chatham County District Attorney, are expected to discuss potential charges related to the tragic accident.
