He passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from heart complications in Los Angeles. He was 52 years old.

Jamie Christopher was born in 1971 in Barnet, London, and grew up in a filmmaking family. His father, Malcolm J. Christopher, was a production manager on Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, and his mother, Penny Christopher, was a production coordinator on Event Horizon2.
He started his career as a third assistant director on Alien3, directed by David Fincher when he was just 212. He then worked on several other films such as GoldenEye, The Fifth Element, The Mummy, and The Bourne Ultimatum.
He became the first assistant director in 2001 and worked on all eight Harry Potter movies, directed by Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates.
He also collaborated with Rian Johnson on Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out, with James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, with Sam Raimi on Spider-Man 3 and Oz the Great and Powerful, and with Joss Whedon on Avengers: Age of Ultron2.
He was an associate producer on Thor: The Dark World and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania1.
Jamie Christopher was known for his professionalism, efficiency, and kindness on set. He earned the love and respect of his crew and the filmmakers he worked with.
He was also passionate about the history and process of making movies. He was one of the highest-grossing assistant directors in the business.
Many of his colleagues and friends paid tribute to him on social media, expressing their grief and admiration. Rian Johnson wrote: “Jamie was one of the best in the film business, period, much less in his field.
When I first met him, I didn’t know they made ADs like him, and he changed my view of them entirely. I loved him as a friend and a collaborator, and I’ll miss his laugh. I’m heartbroken to have lost him.”3 James Gunn added: “Jamie was one of the best ADs around and a good friend.
What made Jamie so special was the love he had for the process and history of making movies, but even more than that, it was his love of his crew. Jamie was one of the all-time greats. We’ve lost him too soon.”
Jamie Christopher is survived by his wife Lisa Christopher-Lau and their two children. He will be remembered as a brilliant assistant director who contributed to some of the most iconic films of our time. His legacy will live on through his work and his family.
