DAW NEWS: Avid Pro Tools Intro. Why Entry Level Pro Tools Just Got (A Bit) More Interesting

Avid Pro Tools: Third Party AAX Plug In Support for New ProTools Intro.

So the question on everybody's lips when the new free/entry level Pro Tools was launched towards the end of last year was: 'Can ProTools Intro load AAX plugins from third party developers'?......and the answer is Yes!

Pro Tools First was an excellent introduction to the Pro Tools world. It's been one of the most popular music production and broadcast audio editing platforms around for many years, so a free version of ProTools to help students and producers learn the basic was always very welcome.

With the free AIR music Xpand!2 instrument and sounds it also went some way to being a complete package that could be used maybe for singer/songwriters to develop demos at least, and maybe even finished product.

But the inability to add any additional third party free or commercial AAX plug-ins was somewhat limiting.

But....there was a great concise user guide available, along with lots of high quality effects plug-ins so it did serve as an excellent, and maybe the best introduction to computer music around.

Admittedly, it still only has 8 audio and 8 midi/instrument tracks, but the fact that Pro Tools Intro does support third party plugins is a huge bonus.

More great news is that AIR XPand2 is still supplied along with a great sounding selection of 'essential' sounds, so you have an excellent sound 'foundation' if you like but now you can add some more creativity via some third party synth/instrument plugins.

This makes Pro Tools Intro a genuine option for anyone wanting to access and develop a knowledge of computer music as well as produce great sounding demos and pro-sounding finished articles. Singer/songwriters, electronic musicians, soundtrack composers, and EDM producers alike.

A comprehensive line-up of audio plug-in processors and effects is still supplied, so you've got everything you need to record your 'realworld' instruments such as your voice and guitar.

So I guess the next question is what are the best free plugins for Pro Tools....Well I'll be producing a comprehensive database of free and commercial AAX instrument plug-ins over at my new dedicated Pro Tools resource page: The Tool Box...but for now, how about checking out the three free excellent synths available in AAX format over at u-he.com. There you'll find Zebralette, Podolski, and Triple Cheese.

Three more AAX u-he synths are available from magazines. Zebra CM and Bazille CM are available with a single purchase of Computer Music magazine, and Tyrell N6 virtual analog synth is available from Amazona.de with no subscription necessary.

Of course you can find more info, and download your free copy of Pro Tools Intro over at AVID.com.

....and there's a new Pro Tools Quick Reference Guide which will help you to get started. Just like the excellent user guide for Pro Toolds First.

Why not like/follow me over at my Facebook Page for all the latest Pro Tools developments and updates. You'll also find loads of free sounds for lots of different synths and plugins as well as other computer music news.
