Despite not fully fitting into the rom-com genre, the film adheres to the format. While various people work out their relationships, there is a great deal of pain and turmoil in addition to romance and even a hint of humor. Waverly finds herself in Holden to see her aunt Rachel, with whom she hasn’t actually been in contact for a time. Waverly shows up out of the blue. Her parents had planned her transportation to an employment expo in Toronto. That was not even part of the strategy.
