In this tutorial, you will learn to create a 3d Layered Paper Art scene that beautifully captures the essence of the fall season. Let’s get started and bring the warmth and colors of autumn into your home.

Hello, Crafty People! Are you a fan of layered Paper art for home decor? I certainly am! While it may be a bit hard to create, the final result is undeniably worth the effort. Paper layering arts can add texture, depth, and a unique touch to any space. And the craft we are making today is even more rewarding.

So today, we are making a fall-inspired 3d layered Paper Art. This one is actually easier to make than other 3d paper art and with some practice, anyone can make it. We choose the autumn scene as inspiration because it brings a warm and bright vibe into any space. Plus, I love the autumn season

Although it is a fall-inspired layered paper art, you can make it in any season. During the winter, it can serve as a reminder of the beautiful fall colors and fallen leaves. And in summer, it can notify you of the upcoming season of vibrant colors and warm tones.

Also, it won’t cost you much. If you have the tools at your home, you won’t need materials that cost more than 2 dollars. So, gather your supplies, print the free layered paper art template, and let’s get started on this fun and rewarding project!

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Paper Layers

Select different shades of green craft papers or cardstock papers for this craft. I’m going to use green papers for the 3d fall forest layers. This 3d paper-craft basically has 5 layers- 1 background (blue for the sky), 3 inner layers for the main scene (green), and 1 front layer (any color you want).

Prepare all the selected papers by cutting them into the same size. Also, arrange them and trace the provided template patterns on them accordingly.

Step 2: Cut out the Patterns

After tracing each selected paper with each layer pattern, use an x-acto knife to cut out the grey area (as marked on the template). Make sure to cut out the patterns neatly.

Step 3: Add the Foam Border to the Background

Take the background paper and also cut some strips from the craft foam sheets. I am going to use craft foam strips to create a border around the 4 sides of the paper so that the next layer is a bit lifted up to give a 3d vibe. Glue 4 foam strips on 4 sides of the background paper.

Step 4: Attach the Second Layer

Now apply glue along the top surface of the strips attached to the background paper and then place the second layer over the glued strips. You can sue thicker foam strips if you want to lift up the paper more, the one I used was about half 3 mm thick.

Step 5: Add the Remaining Layers

Continue to add the next layers. Don’t forget to add a craft foam trip layer between every 2 paper layers to create the 3d look.

Step 6: Trace and Cut out the Forest Scene Items

Select different colored cardstock papers to trace and cut out the Fall forest scene items. The provided template includes – mushroom, vines, leaves and trees.

Step 7: Add the Tree Logs

I used brown coloring pencil to add shades along the tree log cutouts. Use craft glue to stick the tree logs on the paper layers. Keep the wider ones to the front and thinner ones on the back layers.

Step 8: Add the Remaining Scene Items

Now add the other items to the scene. I’m placing the mushroom along the bottom side of the third and fourth layers. Add the vines to the front layer. Arrange them nicely.

Step 9: Decorate the Scene

Add the small leaf cutouts to the tree branches. Be careful with the glue, they tend to make a mess.
