The Christmas countdown has started and we’re really excited to share our last-minute Christmas crafts! And what could be more fitting for the holiday season than creating some festive Origami Christmas Trees?

These easy Christmas tree origami patterns can also be used on different occasions simply if you change the colors. Use pink or white paper for Valentine’s Day; orange, brown, or Fall colored papers for Thanksgiving or fall. Get crafty and creative with colors and patterns. Plus you can make large origami Christmas trees using the same pattern.

We tried to keep this 3d Christmas tree origami pattern easy and beginner-friendly. All you need to know is the basic origami folding skills and you’re good to go. The origami instructions do not require any complicated folding steps.

Spare 10 minutes and grab a piece of paper to get started. Even if you make a couple of them, it won’t cost you a dollar.

How to Make an Origami Christmas Tree

 List of Supplies

Tools

• Scissors
• Sharpie
• Craft glue

The origami Christmas tree pattern does not require any tools but you will need tools and materials to decorate the tree.

 Materials

• Craft paper – Light or Medium-light

Step by Step Instructions to Fold Paper Christmas Tree

Step 1: Base Folding

Prepare a piece of square sheet. Fold the paper in half diagonally on both sides. Flip the paper and make vertical and horizontal half-folds. Flip the paper and push in the horizontal and vertical folds and draw the center upwards.

Step 2: Forming the Flaps and Working on Them

Flatten the paper pattern by drawing the diagonal creases upwards. Join 2 flaps on each side. The current pattern should have a total of 4 flaps, 2 on each side. Let’s work on the top-right flap. Fold it into half and then again into half.

Step 3: Working on the Flaps

Similarly, fold the top-left flap in half twice. Unfold the last 4 half-folds. Notice the yellow and orange lines; Fold the flap along the yellow line and then flatten the flap by folding it along the orange line. Fold in the extra part (on top) along the middle crease.

Step 4: Working on the Flaps

Fold in the extra part neatly. Now do the same with the left flap. Turn the current pattern to the other side and similarly, fold the 2 flaps.

Step 5: Turn the Flaps

Hold the pattern by separating each flap. Flip and join the flap with the flap of the opposite side, or simply exchange the pair of flaps. Fold up the bottom triangle part and flatten it with the origami pattern. Unfold it and tuck it inside along the previous crease. Turn the pattern and do the same with the other side.

Step 6: Tree Trunk

Turn the flaps to their initial pairs again. Let’s work on the bottom (small part under the triangle tree base) part now. Fold up the triangle part. Unfold the 2 flaps slightly. Tuck the bottom fold under the flaps and close the flaps again.

Step 7: Completing the Origami Christmas Tree

Turn the current pattern to the other side and similarly, fold the bottom part. Use a sharpie to draw patterns on the tree and cut out a star pattern from glittery or decorative paper. Attach the star cutout on the top of the tree. You can make the origami tree stand on its trunk part.

Tips for Beginners

Just Getting Started with Origami? Here are some tips if you’re having difficulty:

• Use a square (1:1) sheet for this origami pattern.
• Use medium-light craft papers for this origami project. Do not use too thin or thick paper.
• Make the initial/ base folds as neatly as possible.
• Use a sharpie to add patterns to the origami Christmas tree or use patterned paper.
• Add a glittery star on top to give it a festive look.
