  • A pair of scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Step-by-Step Crochet Star Instructions

Step 1: Base Loop

Select a yarn and start with a slip knot. Chain 4 and then form a loop by working a slip stitch through the first chain of the initials.

Step 2: Start Round 2

Chain 2 and then work 2 double crochet (dc, US term) through the base loop.

Step 3: Round 2

Chain 1 and then work 3 dc through the base loop.

Step 4: Finishing Round 2

Repeat *ch 1, 3 dc* 3  more times into the base loop. End round 2 with a slip stitch through the top chain of the initial chain 2.

Step 5: Starting Round 3

Slip stitch towards the next top chain. Work 2 dc through the chain 1 gap of round 2.

Step 6: Forming the Point

Work a treble crochet (tc, US term) into the chain gap of round 2 and then work 3 chain stitches.

Step 7: Forming the Point

Work 1 tc, and 2 dc through the chain gap of round 2.

Step 8: Completing the 1st Point

Work a slip stitch through the top chain adjacent to the next chain gap. Repeat the pattern to form the next point of the crochet star.

Step 9: Form 5 Points

Work 1 point into each chain gap. The pattern has 5 chain gaps, which means the star will be a 5-point crochet star. The more gaps you keep the more points will be added. Work a last slip stitch through the bottom chain of the 1st point.

Step 10: Securing the Crochet Star

Pull out a couple of cm of the yarn and then cut it off from the bundle. Use a tapestry needle to stitch the remaining yarn on the backside of the crochet star pattern.

Step 11: Make the Ornament

Cut out a piece of twine and insert it through the tip of any one point. Hold 2 ends of the twine and bead through both. Tie a knot with the open ends to complete the crochet star ornament.
