The two-part space epic Rebel Moon-Part One: A Child of Fire is set to be released by Netflix on December 22, 2023, and the sequel, Rebel Moon-Part Two: The Scargiver, will debut on April 19, 2024. The film is an epic space opera set within a universe controlled by the corrupt government of the Mother World. Kora (Sofia Boutella), a former Mother World army member, leads a rebellion. She tasks herself to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to fight against the forces of the Mother World.

Snyder has collaborated with Titan Comics on a four-part prequel comic book series called Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe. The comics are based on a story by Snyder and will be written by Eisner-nominated Mags Visaggio, writer of comics like Kim & Kim and Transformers vs The Visionaries. The series features art by Clark Bint, known for his work on Killtopia and Murder Most Mundane with colours by Francesco Segala.

The prequels are set 5 years before the events depicted in Rebel Moon -Part One: A Child of Fire. House of the Bloodaxe provides backstory for the characters of Devra (Cleopatra Coleman) and Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fischer), leaders of a band of outlaw revolutionaries.

The comic follows Snyder’s storyline about a war looming on the planet Shasu. The leader of the Bloodaxe family is conflicted between living up to his father’s domineering legacy and maintaining the peace. He must settle the conflicts within himself and his family before the entire planet erupts into war.

Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe offers essential reading to anyone wanting to learn more about the expansive lore of the Rebel Moon universe. In a quote from Synder, he says, “I’m excited to collaborate with Mags to explore the rich and complex backstory of the Bloodaxe siblings.” Zack adds, “In Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe, fans will discover their motivation, as well as the genesis of the rebellion.”  Writer Mags Vissagio compares the comics to a Shakespearean tragedy that’s hugely personal and filled with family conflict.

The comics are planned to lay the foundation of a massive story that has already been compared to Star Wars for its scope and scale. Snyder has been teasing the release of his new masterwork for some time, and fans’ expectations are at an all-time high. Especially considering Snyder’s fallout with Warner Brothers after his Justice League film. Snyder has found a way to make his own films, which is a genuine testament to his artistic vision without too much studio interference. His work on Justice League was fraught with studio meddling, with the director eventually leaving the project unfinished.
