Football Fans Spot A Huge Lie In Netflix’s Beckham Documentary

The 4th of October marked the premiere of the Netflix docuseries about the lives of David and Victoria Beckham, focusing on the ups and downs of his career and how he met his now wife. While fans have been excitedly awaiting a window into the lives of one of the most famous couples on the planet, the first episode has fans questioning a huge lie in Netflix’s Beckham documentary.

Netflix’s Beckham shows the world never-before-seen footage of intimate, candid interviews mixed with footage that was captured or televised at the time, that follows David Beckham’s career, starting from his humble beginnings and the way that his career was catapulted into stardom on a global level thanks to his soccer career. The documentary also includes stories of how he and his wife, Victoria Beckham, met and their budding relationship at the time.

The series focuses on David Beckham’s career, following it from the day he had his breakthrough moment at Manchester United through his venture at Real Madrid and even the end of his career at LA Galaxy. It shares bits and pieces that have influenced him along the way.

The loving couple have just celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary and shared in the docuseries how they have seen their fair share of ups and downs. The two candidly recalled the heartbreak of the early years of their relationship, when David was red-carded during the World Cup and the absolute fallout that followed.

Victoria recalled her anger at the people who treated her now husband horribly, calling him one of the most hated men in Britain and how he was treated, “I mean, the absolute hate, the public bullying to another level. He was depressed, absolutely, clinically depressed. I still want to kill these people.” He received death threats and was booed at every away venue he visited for over a year. She even shared that she had told him she was pregnant the night before it went down.

The four-part docuseries hit the streaming platform on the 4th of October, 2023. Not even two days later, fans spot issues with it and have picked up on a massive lie in the first episode. The two reminisced about the early days, talking about how David would drive four hours just to spend 20 minutes with her, and Victoria spoke about how she would go and watch his games. “The fact I went to the games…some would say stalk him, I would say support him. I just fancied him.”

The two talked about how she went to go and watch his game at Old Trafford, the iconic home of Manchester United, and how excited he was when he heard that she was in attendance. The footage showed Old Trafford at the clip’s start and discussed how he scored an important goal for his team… The only problem is that the footage of the goal was actually at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. This stadium is some 200 miles away from Old Trafford. Oh yes, and that match, where he scored the goal, wasn’t until a few weeks later, so it’s not even that they just got the location wrong, but the timing.

Fans have had every kind of comment, from wondering if Netflix didn’t have the budget to get the proper footage to wondering if Beckham was so distracted by Posh Spice being in the audience that he never actually scored a goal to even wondering if he is a time traveller.

One of the problems that the series is facing, and that the couple has had to face for years is that we all got to grow up watching their budding romance, seeing it televised and discussed in magazines worldwide, so nothing is really secret.

Do you agree with Beckham documentary watchers that this is a huge lie, a blunder of monumental proportions, or is it just some editing that Netflix hoped wouldn’t be noticed?
