The Historical Fiction world erupted with anticipation when the world heard that Netflix and Stranger Things‘ Shawn Levy would adapt the award-winning novel All the Light We Cannot See into a TV miniseries. Now, almost a decade after the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel was published, the Netflix Original Limited Series is almost ready to hit the streaming platform, and here’s everything you need to know about it.

All the Light We Cannot See is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Anthony Doerr, published in the US on the 6th of May, 2014. The same year it was released, the novel received the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Historical Fiction, and the following year, it won the Audie Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. After selling more than 15 million copies worldwide, Netflix announced they would adapt the novel.
Shawn Levy and Steven Knight worked together to turn the immaculate Story of All the Light We Cannot See into a four-episode series, with each episode being an hour long. The miniseries seems determined to stick closely to the original novel’s story, adapting it as well as possible to stay true to readers and bring in more fans.
The dramatic historical fiction show tells the story of a blind French teenager named Marie-Laure (Aria Mia Loberti) who lives in Paris with her father (Mark Ruffalo as Daniel LeBlanc), who works at the Museum of Natural History, and the two lived nearby. During World War II, when Marie-Laure was only twelve years old, the Nazis occupied Paris, causing the two to flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, to the safety of a tall house by the sea, the home of Marie-Laure’s reclusive uncle. This man is traumatized with PTSD from World War I.

The two are separated when it is discovered that Marie-Laure’s father is carrying one of the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewels. In a desperate attempt to reconnect with her father, Marie-Laure tries to communicate with him through radio signals. Before long, her voice becomes one of hope.
Werner Pfenning, a German soldier who was recruited into the Nazi army as a radio specialist, as the army wishes to use his talents to track down and deal with the resistance in Paris, the resistance that uses the radio to communicate. While looking for the resistance, he comes across Marie-Laure’s broadcasts, and her voice becomes a beacon in the darkness that is the horrors many experienced in World War II.

Starring alongside Aria Mia Loberti and Louis Hofmann are both unknown and well-known actors like Andrea Deck as Sandrina, Hugh Laurie as Etienne LeBlanc, Lars Eidinger as SGM Reinhold Von Rumpel, Luna Wedler as Jutta, Richard Sammel as Dr Hauptmann, and Rosie Hilal as Frau Elena.
