Netflix Just Quietly Released One Of The Best Thrillers of the Year

There’s nothing more terrifying than a Thriller about a series of events that you don’t have to imagine experiencing and are entirely likely, if not with a little bad luck. The fear from a thriller of this nature isn’t a supernatural one that we hope doesn’t happen to us but is a real possibility. Netflix’s latest thriller, Nowhere, tells a terrifying story of a pregnant woman who stows away on a shipping container, hoping for a better life for her baby, only to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with a baby on its way out.

Nowhere is a Spanish thriller that follows a young woman named Mia, who is heavily pregnant. She desperately attempts to flee her home country, devastated by a totalitarian government and civil war, dreaming of a better life for her baby. She can only get out of the country by hiding in a maritime container aboard a cargo ship.

During a violent storm, Mia’s container has been ripped free of the cargo ship, and the mother-to-be is now trapped in a sinking shipping container, pregnant and alone, adrift in the middle of nowhere. As resourceful as she is, she has to use everything at her disposal in the container to try and survive long enough to get herself and her baby out of the mess she is in.

What’s worse than being pregnant and alone in the ocean in a sinking shipping container? Going into labour out there. This Film deals with a very human fear that has the potential to resonate with mothers around the world, as well as any person who has had to go through the unfortunate circumstances of escaping their war-torn country. There’s no supernatural threat, no giant shark like The Meg, just the isolation, hopelessness, and the fear that Mia and her baby won’t survive.

The film stars Anna Castillo, Irina Bravo, Lucía Soria, Mariam Torres, Mary Ruiz, Tamar Novas, Tony Corvillo, and Victoria Teijeiro, directed by Albert Pintó. The film is produced by Miguel Ruz and credits writers Ernest Riera, Indiana Lista (original screenplay), Seanne Winslow, and Teresa de Rosendo for their instrumental work on the movie’s script.

Unfortunately, there are some limitations to the fear that can be conjured up based on the film’s premise, despite being stuck in a shipping container already being a terrifying concept. Some critics who have seen and commented on the film already have said that there isn’t enough to drive the plot because of the way that the setting and the premise limit itself, but other critics have said that the film is a success for those that resonate with it, connecting “with certain offerings of tension and fortitude,” according to Brian Orndorf at Blu-ray.com.

Nowhere hits Netflix for streaming as of today, the 29th of September, 2023, so it’s the perfect time to start your thriller journey before we get into the spooky season.
