Money Heist is the original series that started this madness. The Netflix heist thriller series became a global hit for the streamer because of its intense and clever storyline with genuine and relatable characters. Money Heist tells the story of a motley crew of thieves gathered by the one known as “The Professor” to pull off one of the biggest heists ever at the Royal Mint of Spain. Created by Álex Pina, the Netflix series ran for five seasons ending its run in 2021. Money Heist stars Álvaro Morte, Úrsula Corberó, Pedro Alonso, Itziar Ituño, Alba Flores, Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente, Esther Acebo, and Darko Perić in the lead roles.

Everybody Loves Diamonds (Prime Video)

Directed by Gianluca Maria Tavarell, Everybody Loves Diamonds has many similarities to Berlin including its ensemble cast and a big heist, but unlike Berlin, this Prime Video Italian series is based on a real heist known as Antwerp diamond heist of 2003. The series revolves around a petty criminal Leonardo Notarbartolo who formulates a plan to steal gems worth millions of dollars from Antwerp’s diamond centre. Everybody Loves Diamonds stars Kim Rossi Stuart in the lead role with Synnøve Macody Lund, Carlotta Antonelli, Anna Foglietta, Rupert Everett, and Gianmarco Tognazzi starring in supporting roles.

Prison Break (Hulu & Rent on Prime Video)

Prison Break is one of the most thrilling heist series ever made and while Berlin and Prison Break don’t have many similarities on paper, the Fox series contains some similar elements such as an ensemble cast and heists. Prison Break revolves around two brothers one of which is on death row for a crime he didn’t commit and the other one is a genius who gets himself thrown in the same jail with a plan to break both of them out. Created by Paul Scheuring, Prison Break ran for five seasons and it stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, and Sarah Wayne Callies in the lead roles with Robert Knepper, Amaury Nolasco, and Wade Williams starring in supporting roles.

Sneaky Pete (Prime Video)

Created by David Shore and Bryan Cranston, this Prime Video series doesn’t have many similarities to Berlin as both of them have different concepts but both of them have similar tones, and also characters’s personal stories are kind of similar. Sneaky Pete revolves around Marius, a conman recently released from prison who takes over the identity of his former cellmate to save himself from dangerous gangsters he conned in the past. He goes to Pete’s estranged grandparent’s house and lives there with them while planning to rob them of all their life savings and free himself from the gangster by paying him back. Sneaky Pete stars Giovanni Ribisi in the lead role with Margo Martindale, Peter Gerety, Marin Ireland, Shane McRae, Libe Barer, and Bryan Cranston starring in supporting roles.

Kaleidoscope (Netflix)

Kaleidoscope is kind of a strange entry in this list because the main concept of this Netflix series is that its episodes don’t have any order as you can watch the episodes in any order you want and the story isn’t effected. If we leave the concept of Kaleidoscope behind Berlin this Netflix series has many things in common including a complex main character leading an ensemble of thieves to steal billions of dollars and the best thing about Kaleidoscope is that it is inspired by a real life heist. Kaleidoscope is created by Eric Garcia and it stars Giancarlo Esposito in the lead role with Paz Vega, Tati Gabrielle, Niousha Noor, Rufus Sewell, and Rosaline Elbay starring in supporting roles.

Lupin (Netflix)

The Netflix hit series is set in modern France and follows a professional thief Assane Diop, the son of an immigrant from Senegal who was falsely accused of stealing an expensive diamond necklace by his employers and now Assane wants to avenge his father by stealing the real necklace and punish the people who framed his innocent father. Lupin and Berlin have many similarities including the heists, an ensemble of characters with different motivations, and a forbidden romance that wasn’t supposed to happen. Lupin stars Omar Sy in the lead role with Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, and Etan Simon starring in supporting roles.

Sky Rojo (Netflix)

Hailing from the same creators as Money Heist and Berlin, this Netflix series is more of a survival thriller than a heist but both Berlin and Sky Rojo have the same sense of tone to them that makes them so compelling. This Spanish Netflix series revolves around three prostitutes who go on the run to escape their hellish life but this journey brings them into a chaotic world as they are chased by their pimp Romeo. Sky Rojo ran for three seasons ending its run 2023 and it stars Lali Espósito, Yany Prado, and Verónica Sánchez with Asier Etxeandia and Miguel Ángel Silvestre starring in supporting roles.
