STAR TREK: LEGACY Discussed

Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard gave fans hope. It delivered what fans wanted, and redeemed several characters and, basically, almost the entire show. So almost immediately a fan campaign started.

The ask was for Star Trek: Legacy, to feature the crew of the USS Enterprise as left by Season 3 of Picard. The new Enterprise (NCC-1701-G) with its Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), first officer Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd), Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), and LaForge’s daughter at the helm, and some of the Next Generation cast included as appropriate back at Starfleet.

Of course, modern Star Trek being modern Star Trek, everything turned out to be a false dawn. Normal, awful, business was resumed in Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds with the continuing voyages of the USS Millennial and its crew of insufferable unlikables as they continued to explore the galaxy aided by the power of quip and snark. After a promising start in Season 1, this show, unfortunately, has gone the way of Star Trek: Discovery. The dead hand of Alex Kurtzman is evident at the helm.

William Riker actor, and director of several episodes and movies in the franchise, Jonathan Frakes has given an interview to Variety and he is with the fans on this one:

“I think they can’t deny not only the fan reaction, but the fact that the numbers put the show at the Top 10 on the streaming charts. And that season of Star Trek: Picard was arguably the among the best seasons of any Star Trek – I think we all agree on that. I mean, Star Trek fans are loyal.

It’s not millions and millions of people, and it’s not the youngest fandom in the world. But I am an eternal optimist, and I believe in a perfect world, they will find the assets and the energy and hire Terry to put together this Legacy show and that will, in fact, come to fruition.”

Star Trek: Legacy remains parked, as a concept, as Paramount already has four series and a movie already screening or in development.
