Feathers Ruffled At Warner Bros. Discovery

According to a newsletter published by The Hollywood Reporter, there are some upset people at Warner Bros. Discovery. What has upset the precious flowers of Burbank? Hurty words!

Specifically, words seeming to criticise the quality of their work. DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have reportedly upset certain Warner Bros. Discovery executives with their bluntness about the previous issues with DC Films, the DCEU and previous efforts at Warner Bros.

During their big unveiling of the new DCU, and it’s first slate, Peter Safran was asked about superhero fatigue, and he responded that it was more like:

“…bad movie fatigue…”

Gunn went even further. Discussing the recent failings of the DCEU with journalists at the event, he said:

“The history of DC is pretty messed up. No one was minding the mint. They were just giving away IP like they were party favors to any creators who smiled at them. What we are going to do is promise that everything from our first project going forward is going to be unified.”

He also talked about script quality, and movies being scheduled and greenlit before the script was in place:

“We’re not going to be making movies and putting hundreds of millions of dollars into a film where a screenplay is only two-thirds of the way done and we have to finish it while we’re making the movie. I’ve seen it happen again and again, and it’s a mess. And I think it’s the primary reason in the deterioration of quality of films today versus 20-30 years ago.”

According to the reports, these comments are considered by some at Warner Bros. talking about the efforts of current or former colleagues, as “not exactly tactful.” Some of the old regime are still around at Warner Bros. Discovery and among them “there have been quite a few ruffled feathers.”

The reports point out that the duo are creatives and movie-makers, not corporate suits, and their approach has upset some at headquarters. Don’t worry guys, we are sure there is still enough cocaine to go around.

Maybe if you don’t want people saying you have been making shit movies… don’t make shit movies? You never know, it could catch on.
