SECRET WARS Writer And Marvel Specials

Marvel needs to get its groove back after Phase 4 was a bust. Phase 5 and 6 do have potential and some big names ready to enter the fray. One thing is for sure, we are getting more Avengers. We already knew that Jeff Loveness was writing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty with Destin Daniel Cretton directing. Now Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is onboard Avengers: Secret Wars.

Secret Wars was a twelve-issue American comic book crossover limited series that was tied-in with a toy line of the same name from Mattel back in the 80s.

A cosmic entity called the Beyonder is fascinated by the presence of superheroes on Earth and their potential, so he chooses a group of both heroes and supervillains and teleports them against their will to “Battleworld”, a planet created by the Beyonder in a distant galaxy.

This world has also been stocked with alien weapons and technology. The Beyonder then declares:

“I am from beyond! Slay your enemies and all that you desire shall be yours! Nothing you dream of is impossible for me to accomplish!”

The heroes include the Avengers (Captain America, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Iron Man, the She-Hulk, Thor, the Wasp, and the Hulk), three members of the Fantastic Four (Human Torch, Mister Fantastic and the Thing), solo heroes (Spider-Man and Spider-Woman) and the mutant team the X-Men (Colossus, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Rogue, Storm, Wolverine, and Lockheed the Dragon).

Magneto is featured as a hero, but immediately becomes non-aligned when the Avengers question his presence.

The villains include the Absorbing Man, Doctor Doom, Doctor Octopus, the Enchantress, Kang the Conqueror, Klaw, the Lizard, the Molecule Man, Titania, Ultron, Volcana, and the Wrecking Crew. The cosmic entity Galactus also appears as a villain who immediately also becomes non-aligned.

It was in this series that Spider-Man obtained his black suit for the first time.

Secret Wars will be the sixth Avengers movie. No director as been announced but it is set for a November 8th 2025 release.

In other Marvel news, they are reportedly developing more one-off MCU-set special presentations following on from Werewolf by Night and the Guardians Of The Galaxy Christmas Special.

According to Cosmic Circus, titles under consideration include Wonder Man, Nova, Captain Carter, and a Ten Rings series.
